Greene To Attend Coaches Academy
Newbury College women's basketball head coach, Katie Greene, has been selected to attend the 2011 NCAA Women Coaches Academy from June 1-5 in Denver, Colo. There are only three, five day, academy sessions offered in 2011 with only 42 slots available in each Academy and Greene was selected to attend the five day class at the beginning of the month of June.
The Women's Coaches Academy was started in 2002 by the NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics (CWA) as a professional development resource aimed to train and retain female coaches in intercollegiate athletics. The seminar is broken down into four tracks over the course of eight weeks, from philosophy and fundamentals to management skills and communication strategies to career development opportunities such as networking.
In 2011-2012, Greene will be entering her fifth season as Head Women's Basketball Coach. After taking over a winless team in 2007, the women's basketball program has made significant strides with Greene at the helm. She guided the Newbury to the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) post-season each of the past three seasons including an above .500 conference record as well as hosted their first home playoff contest this season.
