Assistant Women's Basketball Coach Sarah Briggs Joins the Boston Police Department
Newbury College’s assistant women’s basketball coach Sarah Briggs became the latest members of “Boston’s Finest” when she graduated from the Boston Police Academy on May 16th 2011 and joined ranks in the oldest Police Department in the Country.

Curry, Graus Highlight the 2011 Athletic Banquet
In front of a packed house of nearly 250 people including over 130 athletes, their families, faculty and staff junior Patrick Curry (Hampstead, NH) and fellow junior Jessica Graus (Rochester, NY) earned the 2011 Male and Female Scholar-Athlete Award, respectively, at the 2010-2011 Athletic Banquet.

Greene To Attend Coaches Academy
Newbury College women’s basketball head coach, Katie Greene, has been selected to attend the 2011 NCAA Women Coaches Academy from June 1-5 in Denver, Colo. There are only three, five day, academy sessions offered in 2011 with only 42 slots available in each Academy and Greene was selected to attend the five day class at the beginning of the month of June.

O'Connell, Machado Garner NECC Accolades
Sophomore center Catherine O’Connell (Quincy, Mass./North Quincy) and junior guard Morganna Machado (Attleboro, Mass./Attleboro) garnered New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) post-season honors. O’Connell was named to the NECC All-Conference second team for her second consecutive season while Machado earned NECC Honorable Mention.

Monteiro Garners National Recognition
Senior guard Ashley Monteiro (Cambridge, Mass./Cambridge Rindge and Latin) became the second Newbury student-athlete to be named to the D3Hoops Team of the Week this season and third student-athlete overall. In their last regular season game against Southern Vermont, she set a new career game-high, draining 30 points in the Nighthawks 87-82 victory.

Senior guard Ashley Monteiro (Cambridge, Mass./Cambridge Rindge & Latin) was lights out from beyond the arc in Newbury’s regular season finale, 87-82 victory over Southern Vermont College, Saturday afternoon. Monteiro set a new career high in points and three point field goals in victory.

Sophomore Catherine O'Connell registered her 100th block of her career, setting a new game-high with eight rejected Eagle field goal attempts.

The Newbury College women’s basketball team dropped their first game since December, falling to Elms College, 63-47, in the second game of Saturday afternoon’s double-header. O'Connell Earns Regional and National Recognition
Sophomore Catherine O’Connell (Quincy, Mass.) garnered conference, regional and national recognition after helping the Newbury College women’s basketball team to a 2-1 week, averaging 12.6 points and 22.3 rebounds. The Quincy native currently leads Division III averaging 16.7 rebounds per game while is sixth in the nation in double-doubles with seven.

Junior guard Morganna Machado (Attleboro, Mass./Attelboro) registered a career game-high, draining 26 points in Newbury College’s 71-63 victory over Becker College. The win improves the Nighthawks to 1-1 in the conference and 3-7 overall while the Hawks drop to 0-1 and 2-6 overall. Machado netted 21 of her game-high 26 points in the second half as well as recorded two blocks and a steal on defense.

It was the Nighthawks second consecutive victory over the Raiders after holding on for a one-point win last season. The Newbury College women’s basketball team dropped their 2010-11 season opener to Roger Williams University, Monday evening. The Hawks picked up the convincing victory, 78-48, over the Nighthawks. Sophomore Catherine O’Connell (Quincy, Mass.) recorded a double-double, registering 13 points and 15 rebounds (nine offensive) while rejecting a game-high six blocks for Newbury.
