Lions Tame Nighthawks
The Eastern Nazarene Women's Basketball team defeated the Nighthawks of Newbury College 69-47 tonight in Brookline, MA. The Lions were paced by First Year forward Alexis Malloy (Greenbelt, MD) who recorded the games only double double with 11 rebounds and 12 points.
The Nighthawks lead the game 5-1 in the opening minutes but would never regain the lead again as Eastern Nazarene would capitalize on 31 Newbury turnovers and converted them into 20 points. The story of the game was shooting as the Lions were on fire shooting just over 48% from the field compared the Nighthawks dismal 22%, making just 12 field goals in the game. Eastern Nazarene also dominated the paint scoring 32 of their 69 points.
First Year center Shardae Brown (Waterbury, CT) scored 16 points for the Lions while Ja'na Jenkins (Oakland, CA) chipped in another 12 respectively.
Despite the loss, the Nighthawks were led by Ashley Monterio (Cambridge, MA) who finished the night with a game high 22 points, shooting 12 of 14 from the charity stripe.
Newbury travels to Anna Maria College on Wednesday, December 3 where they look to take down the AMCATS in a non-conference match-up beginning at 5:30 PM.
