Newbury College Women's Basketball Looking to Soar in the NECC
Under the direction of head coach Katie Greene, in her second season, the Nighthawk Women's Basketball team looks to lead the way in its inaugural year as a member of the New England Collegiate Conference.
The Nighthawks will look to junior captain Katelyn Mark (Quincy, MA) for leadership as she is one of only three returners on the squad. Mark is coming off an impressive 2007-2008 season, collecting 207 points, 156 rebounds, 52 assists, and 50 steals.. Sophomores Ashley Monteiro (Cambridge, MA) and Amy Chen (Chelmsford, MA) will also contribute to Newbury's strong foundation.
The Nighthawks have added ten new faces to the team including guards Tricia Corriveau (Coventry, RI), Morganna Machado (Attleboro, MA), Shayla White (Dorchester, MA), and Kendra Bannister (Stafford, VA) along with forwards Shaina Berry-Cooper (Boston, MA), Jessica Graus (Rochester, NY), LaStarr Christopher (Stoughton, MA), Ketia Georges (Randolph, MA), Olga Cepeda (Boston, MA) and Felicia Jones (Randolph, MA). They will be called upon to bring an integral spark to the Newbury lineup.
The Nighthawks were ranked 6th in the NECC pre-season poll and are looking to make the playoffs in the conference's inaugural year.
