Nighthawks Fall to Strong Team Effort by Lynx
All ten members of the Lesley University Women's Basketball team scored in their 63-37 victory over Newbury College tonight in Brookline, MA. The game marked the Nighthawks' first conference match-up since becoming a member of the New England Collegiate Conference and left them still looking for their first win.
The first half was dominated by the Lynx as nine players contributed to their 36 points. Kelly Harrington (Toledo, OH/Emmanuel Baptist) led the charge with eight points in her 11 minutes played; while Brianne Caira (Pelham, NH/Pelham) and Cassidy Freed (Brattleboro, VT/Brattleboro Union) took care of business on the boards, posting five first-half rebounds a piece.
The Nighthawks received an offensive spark in the second half from Ashley Monteiro (Cambridge, MA/Cambridge Rindge & Latin) and Kendra Bannister (Stafford, VA/Brook Point), but it would not be enough to make up the 22-point first half deficit. Bannister scored six of her ten total points on a solid run to start the second half, while Monteiro connected on two of four from the three-point line, scoring all 12 of her points after halftime. Lesley's Hailee Lowe (Hamilton, MA/Hamilton-Wenham) maintained the Lynx advantage leading all scorers in the second half with 14 points.
Newbury hosts MIT on Monday, January 12, 2009 for a non-conference game beginning at 7:00 PM
