Eagles Soar Past Nighthawks
The Newbury College Nighthawks dropped an NECC conference game to the Eagles of Daniel Webster College 33-53 tonight in Brookline, MA. Leading the way for the Eagles was Nicole Conley (Hinesburg, VT/Rice) with 9 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists.
The Eagles capitalized on poor shooting by the Nighthawks from the opening tip, scoring 31 points in the first half compared to Newbury's 15 on 24% shooting from the floor and 14% from behind the arc. Newbury would end the game shooting just 22% from the floor and a season low 8% from 3 point land.
The second half brought much of the same as the Eagles pushed the lead to 20 and never looked back despite turning the ball over 25 times. Newbury was unable to take advantage and would also turn the ball over 25 times back to the Eagles. Daniel Webster turned to their bench for support as they outscored Newbury's bench 29-4.
Despite the loss, the Nighthawks Katelyn Mark (Quincy, MA/North Quincy) came within one rebound of a double double finishing with a game high 10 points and 9 rebounds.
The Nighthawks will host Elms College on Saturday February 21 at 12pm in the final NECC game of the season and needing a win and/or a Southern Vermont College loss to make the playoffs.
