Eleven Nighthawks Named NECC Academic All-Conference
A total of 95 student-athletes have been named to the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Academic All-Conference Team for the winter/spring semester, it was announced today by Commissioner Del Malloy. This list included eleven Nighthawk student-athletes who participated during the winter/spring season and posted a minimum grade point average of 3.40 on a scale of 4.00 while a sophomore or higher in class standings.

Cepeda, O'Hara, & Mark Collect Individual Honors; Softball Earns Team Sportsmanship Award
Eight of the nine sponsored programs were represented on 2010 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Softball All-Conference Team. Sophomore designated player Olga Cepeda (Boston, MA) was named to the NECC First Team, while freshman pitcher Katie O'Hara (Abingdon, MD) received Second Team honors. Senior shortstop Katelyn Mark (Quincy, MA) rounded out the individual awards receiving Honorable Mention while the softball program also collected the 2010 Sportsmanship Award.

Mitchell Defeats Newbury to Advance to the NECC Semi-Finals
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College softball team finished with 12 hits in a 13-0 victory over Newbury College on Tuesday afternoon in a quarterfinals match-up of the 2010 NECC Softball Championship.

2010 NECC Softball Championship Pairings Announced
The Newbury College softball program earned the final spot in the 2010 New England Collegiate Conference Championship Tournament after taking the third criterion in the tiebreaker procedures. They will travel to Mitchell College on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 to take on the third seed Mariners for a single elimination game beginning at 4:00 PM.

Lesley softball closes out regular season with 8-2 victory over Newbury
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Lesley University softball team finished up their previously postponed doubleheader against Newbury College with an 8-2 victory over the Nighthawks in the final game of the 2010 regular season. Lesley will move on to the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championships next week as the #1 seed with a 22-10 (15-1 NECC) record.

O’Hara Notches 100th Strike Out As Nighthawks Sweep Mountaineers on Senior Day
The Newbury College softball team closed out the 2010 home season with a double-header sweep of Southern Vermont College , Saturday afternoon, 6-1 and 4-3. Before the day began the Nighthawks honored seniors Katelyn Mark (Quincy, MA/North Quincy) and Jessica Jordan (Stoneham, MA/Stoneham) for their four years of dedication to the softball program.

Anomaly Helps Nighthawks To Split Versus Elms
The Newbury College softball team handed Elms College their first conference loss of the season in dramatic fashion as the Nighthawks turned the rare play in baseball and softball: the triple play, to shut-out the Blazers, 3-0, to split the double-header after they fell in game one, 8-6. First baseman Catherine O'Connell was three-for-five on the afternoon with two doubles and three RBIs.

The Newbury College softball team fell to Daniel Webster, 11-2 and 11-6, Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Olga Cepeda (Boston, MA/Madison) played solid in the loss going three-for-eight with two doubles and three runs scored on the day.

Lynx capture 10-2 win over Nighthawks
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Lesley University beat Newbury College 10-2 in six innings on Thursday afternoon in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) softball action and in the process improved their 2010 record to 14-9 (7-0 NECC). The Nighthawks dropped to 9-16 (2-7 NECC) following the loss. Game two was postponed and will be made up at a later date. Katelyn Mark (QUINCY, Mass./North Quincy) reached a personal milestone by getting her 100th career hit with a single up the middle in the fourth inning.

Newbury Collects two Non-Conference Wins
BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. -- Freshman Brittany Stracher (Dudley, Mass.) rapped out a pair of hits and drove in five runs as Newbury completed a sweep of a non-league college softball doubleheader from Massachusetts Maritime with a wild 14-13 nightcap victory Wednesday afternoon at Alison Rollins Field, as the Nighthawks used a complete-game three-hitter from freshman Katie O’Hara (Abington, Md.) to notch an 11-2 opening game triumph.

Leicester, Mass. - Becker College and Newbury College spilt a doubleheader today in New England Collegiate Conference softball action. The Nighthawks rallied and took game one 6-5 while the home team Hawks got a 7-3 decision in game 2.

Bats Come Alive For Wildcats In Game 2; Hold Off Late Inning Rally In Game 1
Bay Path College sophomore Maeghan Whitcomb (Lyndon, VT/Lyndon Institute) helped lead the Wildcats to their first two conference victories of the season as they swept the Nighthawks, 5-4 and 11-3, Wednesday afternoon. Game one starter, Rebecca Roach kept the Wildcats off the scoreboard from the fourth inning to the sixth, allowing the Nighthawks to mount a valiant come-back attempt in the bottom of the seventh.

Newbury Softball Drops Two to Mitchell
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College softball team won both games of an NECC doubleheader against Newbury College on Saturday afternoon by final scores of 2-0 and 6-4. In game two, the Nighthawks put up three runs in the fifth to cut the lead to 6-4. Olga Cepeda (Boston, Mass.) delivered a three-run homer—her first of the season—with two outs to provide the damage. Newbury then got two more runners aboard before Thomas got a groundout to end the rally.

After losing a tough game one 6-5 in ten innings, the Newbury Nighthawks came back in game two, downing the Wildcats 15-4 behind two hit performances from freshman Sarah Young (Waterloo, NY) and sophomore Ariel Ross (Gales Ferry, Conn.).

Young Notches First Collegiate Victory Over Mariners
The Newbury College softball team handed Maine Maritime Academy their first loss of the season after splitting Friday afternoon’s double-header in Chestnut Hill, MA. After dropping the first game of the day 11-1, the Nighthawks held the prolific Mariner offense to just a single run in the second game, winning 2-1.

Pitching Not Enough for Nighthawks
Despite strong pitching efforts by both Katie O’Hara (Abingdon, MD/John Carroll) and Rebecca Roach (Charlton, MA/Shepherd Hill Regional) the Newbury College softball program lost both games of a non-conference doubleheader against St. Joseph’s College (CT) Thursday afternoon by scores of 3-2 and 2-1. O’Hara fanned nine batters in game one while only allowing four hits, while Roach struck out eight of her own while only allowing one walk and zero earned runs.

Nighthawks Battle to Win Doubleheader
Weston, Mass.—Newbury College (4-6) defeated nearby Regis College (1-14, 0-2 TCCC) 6-4 in game one, and 8-6 in the second game of doubleheader action Saturday. Freshman Theresa Hylinski (Stratford, Conn.) batted in two runs for the Nighthawks. She went 3-of-5 at the plate.

Nighthawks Drop Two on Opening Day
The Newbury College softball program lost both games of a non-conference doubleheader against Anna Maria College Thursday afternoon by scores of 11-2 and 12-3. The AMCATS were led by junior Jill Hurley (Worcester, MA/Burncoat) who finished the day a combined 7-for-8 in both games. Despite the loss, Newbury freshman Brittany Stracher (Dudley, MA/Shepherd Hill Regional) hit her first collegiate homerun in the bottom of the fifth inning.

O'Hara Named Rookie & Pitcher of the Week
Newbury College freshman Katie O’Hara (Abingdon, Md.) hurled her way to a 2-1 collegiate debut for the Nighthawks. The freshman pitcher went 16 innings giving up seven runs, five earned, on ten hits for a 2.81 ERA. She fanned 12 batters for the week.

Ross & O'Hara Lead Nighthawk Offense in Comeback Win over Thomas College
The Newbury College softball team split a double-header with Thomas College, Tuesday afternoon in Florida. After being shut out in the first game, 9-0, the Nighthawks responded by coming from behind in the second game to earn the 5-3 win. Senior Katelyn Mark led off the contest against Thomas College with a bunt base hit down the third base line.

O'Hara Notches Impressive Start to Collegiate Career
The Newbury College softball team split a double-header with Cedar Crest College, Monday afternoon. The Nighthawks took the first game with a 9-2 win but fell in the back-end, 7-2. Freshman Katie O’Hara (Abingdon, MD) had an impressive start to her collegiate career, pitching five solid innings allow just two runs – none earned – while scattering three hits and striking out six opposing batters.

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Lesley University has been tabbed as the preseason favorite to capture the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) softball championship, it was announced today by Commissioner Del Malloy. Voting for the preseason poll was conducted among the NECC’s head softball coaches. Newbury College earned the #6 position with a season preview to follow shortly.

Nighthawk Softball Wraps for Breast Cancer
The Newbury College softball program participated in a holiday gift wrapping event to benefit the Massachusetts Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation at the South Shore Plaza (Braintree, MA) on Friday, December 11, 2009. While an annual event for the Foundation, it marked the first year of participation for the Nighthawks and raised over $200 in the fight against breast cancer.

Newbury Baseball & Softball Support Miles for Myles
On Sunday, November 8, 2009 the Newbury College baseball and softball programs teamed up to take part in an NCAA sponsored event, Miles for Myles. Myles Brand the President of the NCAA passed away in a September after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. In his honor, the NCAA and the National Association for Basketball Coaches (NABA) encouraged all NCAA institutions nationwide to take part in a three-mile walk during weekend of November 7th to raise money for cancer research in honor of the passing of Brand. The three-miles were used to represent the three NCAA divisions.
