Wildcats Prey on Nighthawks
The Newbury College softball team lost to Wheelock College 5-1 in both games of Saturday afternoon's doubleheader. Senior Stacy Seidner (Pembroke, NH/Pembroke) led the Wildcats to victory with a complete game, 10-strikeout performance against the Nighthawks in game one.
Seidner helped her own cause with a 3-4 performance including driving in the game's first run with an RBI single in the first to plate freshman Sarah Negron (Whitinsville, Northbridge). Junior Kristen Brock (Plainville, MA/King Philip) was also productive for Wheelock, driving in two runs in two runs in the top of the third to put the Wildcats up 5-1.
Junior Elise Ordile (Waltham, MA/Waltham) went 3-for-4 with three RBIs in the second game, to lead Wheelock to another 5-1 victory. The Wildcats shortstop drove in sophomore Nicole Zina (Bristol, RI/Our Lady Fatima) from second to cap a three-run third inning. Two innings later she plated Seidner with the fifth and final Wheelock run.
The Nighthawks were led by junior Jessica Jordan (Stoneham, MA/Stoneham) and Kaila Nicolia (Monroe, CT/Masuk) who went 2-5 and 2-6 on the day, respectively. Jordan drove in Newbury's lone run in the first game with an RBI single in the first inning while Nicolia went 2-for-4 in the second game.
With the loss, Newbury falls to 0-24 (0-10 NECC) on the season while Wheelock improves to 4-15 (4-4 NECC). The Nighthawks will return to the field tomorrow afternoon as they travel to New Hampshire to face the Daniel Webster College Eagles. Their last home game of the season will be Saturday April 25 against Becker college, first pitch is at 12:00pm.
