Men Finish Tied-Second, Women, Fourth, at Lt. Travis J. Fuller Invite

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. - Nighthawks sophomore Tim Brown (Orange, Conn.) finished the 8k course in 26:55, good for 13th place individually, leading the men's cross country team to a tied-second place finish on Saturday morning on the misty coast of the Cape Cod Canal.

Junior Samantha Libby (New Gloucester, Maine) and junior Destiny Spears (Annapolis, Md.) turned in top-15 times in the women's 5k; Libby running the course in 23:46, good for 12th, and Spears finishing 15th with a time of 24:37. The top-15 finishes resulted in a fourth place team finish.

Senior Chris Beaudoin (Bristol, Conn.) and senior Joshua Oliver (Poughkeepsie, N.Y) both ran a sub-six minute mile, turning in final times of 28:45 and 28:56, respectively.

Junior Naomi Ricciotti (Phoenix, Ariz.) ran just under an eight minute pace, turning in a time of 24:46 on the 3.1 mile track.

Mass Maritime took top spot on both sides of the draw, with the men's team running the top-five times overall, including a new course record by set by Jake McVarish, who ran the course in 23:33 (4:43 pace), beating the old record by two minutes, previously held by Emmanuel's Abdihakim Ibrahim in 2010.

Newbury cross country takes two weeks off from formal competition and continue their season on Oct. 15 in a race in Springfield, Mass.
