Cross Country Teams Look to Continue Early Success

In the Nighthawks first meet this season at the Wheelock Opener, Newbury runners combined to turn in the top eight overall times (3 women, 5 men). The men's team combined for a time of 1:25:17, beating the second place team, Daniel Webster, by over 19 minutes and averaging a time of nearly four minutes better per runner.

Strolling to Victory

Nighthawks women's runner, junior Naomi Ricciotti (Pheonix, Ariz) and men's runner, sophomore Tim Brown (Orange, Conn.) both handly won in the Wheelock Opener. Ricciotti outpaced second place runner and teammate Brittany Spears (Annapolis, Md.) by 58 seconds. Brown beat teammate Joshua Oliver (Poughkeepsie, N.Y) by 19 seconds.

Track Conditions and Field

The Mitchell College invitational will be raced as a 5k (3.10 miles) through the Alfred Mitchell Woods of New London, Conn. The field will consist of Newbury, Mitchell, Dean, and Wheelock. Mitchell College ran in the Trinity Invitational, also a 5k; their best men's time was run by freshman David Still (19:38). The best women's time was run by sophomore Kathryn McCormack (26:52).
