Joseph McConkey Named Head Cross Country Coach
Newbury College Director of Athletics, Peter Centola is pleased to announce the appointment of Joseph McConkey as Head Men's and Women's Cross Country Coach at Newbury College. McConkey comes to Newbury with a strong coaching background, most recently as a running coach for the Boston Running Center in Brookline, MA. At the Boston Running Center, McConkey works with post-collegiate athletes, provides weekly workout regimens for runners, assists high school athletes striving for collegiate scholarships and performs bio-mechanical gait analysis for runners suffering from repetitive motion injuries. McConkey was also the head coach for the Cambridge Running Club, coaching weekly workouts for one of Boston's largest running clubs. McConkey has also worked with MIT and the Harvard Business School as a running instructor and fitness specialist during his time prior to Newbury.
A Midwest native, McConkey earned a BA from Ball State University in Muncie, IN where he competed as a D I varsity letterman in both Track and Field and Cross Country. McConkey was also a two time MAC Academic Athlete Award recipient. Currently, McConkey is earning an MS in Exercise Science - Sports Performance and Injury Prevention from California University of Pennsylvania while working in Brookline and residing in Cambridge, MA.
