Congratulations to Elliott Pollard '17 on his acceptance to Arizona State University to pursue a graduate degree in Higher Education and Postsecondary Education with an emphasis in Intercollegiate Athletics. Pollard is an active member of the Newbury Community, participating in athletics, leadership opportunities, and various student organizations. He says, "My ultimate career goal is to be an Athletic Academic Counselor. Newbury has absolutely impacted my career path—from the activities I am involved in and the influential people that have helped me grow as a person and realize my full potential."

Pollard will graduate from Newbury this May with a degree in Sport Management. During his time at Newbury, Pollard has been a member of the Men's Volleyball team, a Student Assistant Coach for the Women's Volleyball team, the President of the Sport Management Club, a member of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC), a Class of 2017 Senator and member of the Academic Affairs committee of the Student Government Association (SGA). Pollard also completed both levels of Leadership Academy.

The activities, classes, mentors and interactions Pollard experienced at Newbury gave him a diverse and meaningful College education. Pollard says, "From Dr. Brimecombe pushing me to be better and expecting more for myself, to Athletic Director Jonathan Harper…continuously encouraging me to live up to my potential, and my volleyball coach, Peter Kazlas, who has been a mentor, coach, friend and older-brother figure who has supported me and made me a better player, coach and person. I also have to give credit to the various other pro-staff members, advisors and classmates that have been amazing and supportive."

Sport Management at Newbury is a thriving and continuously growing program and Pollard has been successful and involved during his time here. According to Dr. Michelle Brimecombe, Assistant Professor Sport Management, "Elliott came to us as a transfer student from the State of Washington and on his arrival, he immediately became a beacon of leadership within the sport management program in and out of the classroom. He is proactive, a leader and a well-rounded individual whom other students in the program look up to. Mr. Pollard has accepted this leadership role in all aspects as he is quick to help another student while never letting his obligations slip."

Each student at Newbury has a unique story and College experience. Pollard explains, "I moved almost 3000 miles away from home when I came to Newbury, and through the ups and downs, the groups and connections I made kept me going and helped me to thrive."
