Nighthawks Offense Too Much For Lions
BOSTON, Mass. – The Newbury College men's volleyball team held of non-conference Emerson College, 3-1, Thursday evening with set scores of 16-25, 25-19, 25-22 and 25-21. Senior outside hitter Danny Kim (Plainview, N.Y.) lit up the Lions setting a single-match high registering 26 kills en route to the victory.
The first set saw the Lions jumped out to the early lead with the 25-16 set victory. Kim's set-high six kills were not enough for the Nighthawks to withstand the stoic Lions defense and an offensive attack from Eric Doherty and Nadav Swartzz.
The Nighthawks veterans answered with a vengeance in the second set to tie up the match one. Senior Chris Chin (Brockton, Mass.) was nearly perfect registering five kills on six attempts for an impressive .833 hitting percentage as Newbury hit .300 as a team in the game.
With new life the Nighthawks did not look back and closed within one win of the match victory taking the third set, 25-22. Kim and first year Chi Yin Li (Framingham, Mass.) helped Newbury stave off a late Emerson rally, hitting .385 and .273, respectively.
Up by one entering the fourth game, Kim sealed the deal, tallying an incredible 10 kills on 17 attempts for a .471 attack percentage as the Nighthawks took the match with the 25-21 set victory.
Newbury improves to 3-5 on the season while Emerson falls to 3-6. The Nighthawks return to the hard-court this weekend when they travel to Springfield for tri-match against Springfield and Hunter College starting at 5:30 p.m.
Match Notes:
Danny Kim's 26 kills pulls him to 699 in his four year career at Newbury.
