Daley, Biuso, Talamantes Garner NECVA Accolades
Senior middle blocker Max Daley (Cranston, R.I.) headlined the three members of the men’s volleyball team after being named to the 2011 NECVA All-Conference Second Team and first-team All-New England Division selection. Classmates senior setter Matt Talamantes (Los Angeles, Calif.) and senior libero Michael Biuso (South Setauket, N.Y.) earned second team All-New England Division honors.
Daley had a remarkable year for the Nighthawks registering .427 hitting percentage and a team-leading 336 kills to put him eighth in the all-time record book with 744 in his four year career. A first year to the All-NECVA first team, the Cranston, R.I. native put up 105 blocks (28 solo and 77 assisted) in 2011 putting him third on the all-time list with 351 total blocks.
Talamantes was named to the NECVA All-New England Division second team. It is the second consecutive year the California native earned the NECVA honors after being selected to the first team in 2010. He surpassed his 5,000th assist in late March and is currently fourth in Division III men’s volleyball history with 5,212 career set assists in addition to being Newbury’s all-time career leader. Talamantes also registered a team-high 44 services aces throughout the course of the 36 match season.
Biuso earned his second NECVA All-New England Division second team honors for the second straight year. He collected his 1,000th career defensive dig earlier this season on the road against Wentworth Institute of Technology in Bennington, Vt. and registered a new season-high with 337 digs in 2011. In addition, Biuso is Newbury’s new all-time leader in digs with 1,217 in his four years.
