Men's Volleyball Sweeps NECC Awards
The Newbury College men’s volleyball team swept the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) weekly awards, posting a 2-1 week which included a sweep at the Elms College tri-match. Senior middle blocker Max Daley (Cranston, R.I./Cranston) named NECC Player of the Week while freshman Dan Davison (Howell, N.J./Howell) earned Rookie of the Week honors.
Daley followed up a seven kill evening against Division I Harvard on last Tuesday with two exceptional performances against Elms and Mt. Ida over the weekend. Against the Blazers, the fourth-year from Rhode Island registered nine kills on 10 attacks without a single error in Newbury’s 3-1 victory. In the match of the day, he led the Nighthawks to the 3-1 victory over the Mustang, tallying 12 kills for a 21-kill afternoon. Over at total of 11 sets on the week, Daley turned in an impressive .476 hitting percentage with 28 kills and seven total blocks.
Davison earned Rookie of the Week honors recording 16 kills against the Crimson, Blazers and Mustangs to guide the Nighthawks to 2-1 along with Daley. The New Jersey native recorded four kills and one block in their lone loss of the week to Harvard but turned it around against Elms and Mt. Ida. Against the Blazers, he was second on the team with six kills while collecting four blocks and remained consistent notching six kills and two blocks in their 3-1 win over the Mustangs.
