Raiders Overpower Nighthawks
The Newbury College men's volleyball team dropped a non-conference game to Rivier College, 3-0 Thursday evening. Junior Jared Andreozzi (Barrington, RI/Barrington) led the Raiders to their 18th victory of the season tallying a team-high 14 kills and four aces.
Rivier took a quick lead with a 30-23 game one win. In the second game, the Raiders jumped out in front early but the Nighthawks answered. Senior Mark Thomas (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug Regional) helped Newbury close the gap in the set but the comeback fell short, falling 30-27. The Raiders finished the sweep with a 30-21 win of game three behind senior Zach Hansen (Shelton, CT/Shelton), who recorded a team-high 23 assists in the contest.
Thomas finished the game with a game-high 15 kills and three assisted blocks while senior Joshua Aberly (Palatine, IL/Palatine) followed up with 11 kills. Sophomore Danny Kim (Plainview, NY/Plainview) also had a solid game tallying five kills, two solo blocks and one assisted block.
The loss drops the Nighthawks to 13-5 on the season while the Raiders improve to 18-4. Newbury returns to action on Saturday when they travel to New York for the Baruch College Tournament at 11:00am.
