NEWBURY COLLEGE MEN'S VOLLEYBALL TAKES 3-0 NECVA WIN OVER REGIS IN TRI-MATCH
The Nighthawks and visiting Pride from Regis College faced off in match two of the day's tri-match at Mount Ida College in Newton, Massachusetts. Newbury captured their second victory in arrow winning in another 3-0 blowout by scores of 30-13, 30-25, and 30-14. The Nighthawks improve to 15-3, 7-0 in the NECVA New England division while the Pride falls to 1-14, 0-8 in the NECVA New England division.
Game one was owned by Newbury leading 9-3 after a service ace by James Beck (Havre De Grace, MD/Havre De Grace). Nighthawk freshman Glauber DeCastro (Centerville, MA/Dennis-Yarmouth) recorded four consecutive service aces during a 5-0 run in the opening of the set. The offensive barrage continued from Newbury jumped ahead 24-10 after multiple kills from Mark Thomas (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug Regional) and freshman Alex Amylon (Scituate, RI/Scituate). Newbury eventually captured the 30-13 game one win leading 1-0 in the match.
Following a quick 5-0 lead by Regis after a solo block from Andrew Carroll (Natick, MA/Natick), the Nighthawks eventually pulled ahead by two up 12-10 after three consecutive errors by the Pride. Regis hung tough keeping the score within two points down 15-13 after a Matt Talamantes (Los Angeles, CA/Viewpoint) kill for Newbury. The Nighthawks eventually proved victorious, after a kill and service ace by Talamantes, in game two winning 30-25 good for a 2-0 match lead.
Game three was more like game one with an offensive barrage coming from the Nighthawks on the lowly Pride. Newbury took an 11-4 lead after two consecutive service aces by sophomore Chris Chin (Brockton, MA/Brockton). A bunch of Regis errors along with a plethora of Newbury offense gave the Nighthawks a commanding 20-11 lead after a Beck kill. Newbury eventually would capture the 30-14 game three win and the 3-0 match victory good for a NECVA New England division win.
