Nighthawks Fall To Crimson on Senior Night
The Newbury College men’s volleyball team lost to Harvard University on Senior Night, 3-1, Thursday evening. Senior Erik Kuld (Toronto, ON, Canada/Upper Canada College) led the way for the Crimson with a game-high 27 kills.
Harvard jumped out quickly behind Kuld and sophomore Matt Jones (La Jolla, CA/La Jolla). Kuld recorded 16 kills while Jones added 12 to give the Crimson the 2-0 advantage. But the Nighthawks responded in the third game to cut the deficit to a game.
Junior James Beck (Havre de Grace, MD/Havre de Grace) helped Newbury edge past Harvard in game three, 30-27, with a team-high five kills. Senior Josh Aberly (Palatine, IL/Palatine) followed up with four kills as well as recording two solo blocks and a game-high five assisted blocks. Aberly finished with a game-high three solo blocks and seven assisted blocks in addition to his nine kills on the night in his final regular season home game of his career.
Newbury jumped in front early in the fourth match but the Crimson proved to be too much as Harvard rebounded, taking the game 30-22 behind Jones who lead the way with five kills in the game. Jones finished the night second to Kuld, recording 22 kills. Nighthawks senior Mark Thomas (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug Regional) finished the game with 12 points while Beck ended with a team-high 15 points.
The Nighthawks will return to action tomorrow evening when they travel to Regis College to face the Pride at 7:00pm.
