Nighthawks Upset Engineers
The Newbury College men's volleyball team upset the 13th ranked Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 3-1, Tuesday evening. Senior Joshua Aberly (Palatine, IL/Palatine) paved the way to victory with a game-high 15 kills.
After falling to the Engineers in the first game, 30-23, the Nighthawks rebounded with three straight wins. Sophomore Danny Kim (Plainview, NY/Plainview JFK) was instrumental in the victory tallying six kills on the night including back-to-back kills late in the third game to lead Newbury to the 30-24 game victory.
Junior Max Daley (Cranston, RI/Cranston East) was also solid in the win, recording a game-high four assisted blocks while fellow junior Matt Talamantes (Sylmar, CA/Viewpoint) added seven kills to his game-high 38 assists. Senior Michael Demyttenaere (Brussels, Belgium/St. John's) led MIT with a team-high 13 kills, a block and a two assisted blocks.
With the win, the Nighthawks improve to 5-4 while the Engineers fall to 6-2. Newbury will return to the court Thursday February 4th when they travel down the road to Wentworth to face the Lions at 7:00pm. Their next home match is February 18th where they host conference foe Daniel Webster College at 7:00pm.
