Eleven Nighthawks Named NECC Academic All-Conference
A total of 95 student-athletes have been named to the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Academic All-Conference Team for the winter/spring semester, it was announced today by Commissioner Del Malloy. This list included eleven Nighthawk student-athletes who participated during the winter/spring season and posted a minimum grade point average of 3.40 on a scale of 4.00 while a sophomore or higher in class standings.

Thomas, Talamantes, Aberly, & Biuso Named to 2010 NECVA All-New England Division
Newbury College senior outside hitter Mark Thomas (Wilbraham, MA) and junior setter Matt Talamantes (Los Angeles, CA) were named to the 2010 NECVA All-New England Division First Team, while fellow senior Joshua Aberly (Palatine, IL) and junior Michael Biuso (South Setauket, NY) received second team honors.

Saints Sweep Newbury
BOSTON, Mass. The 13th-ranked Emmanuel Mens Volleyball Team improved to 27-10 on the season with a 3-0 sweep of Newbury College on Tuesday night in the Jean Yawkey Center. The win gave the record-setting Saints a 9-1 mark at home this season. The loss dropped Newbury to 23-13 on the year.

Nighthawks Fall To Crimson on Senior Night
The Newbury College mens volleyball team lost to Harvard University on Senior Night, 3-1, Thursday evening. Senior Erik Kuld (Toronto, ON, Canada/Upper Canada College) led the way for the Crimson with a game-high 27 kills.

Gulls capture New England Division Title with Win over Nighthawks
BEVERLY, Mass. The Endicott College mens volleyball team captured its second-straight NECVA New England Division regular season Championship with a 3-0 (30-19, 30-11, 30-16) win over visiting Newbury College on Tuesday night in Beverly, Mass. The No. 10 ranked Gulls improve to 25-7 overall and 14-1 in division games while the No. 13 ranked Nighthawks fall to 22-11 and 11-3 in league games. Newbury was led by six kills from James Beck (Havre De Grace, Md.) and five kills apiece from Mark Thomas (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Danny Kim (Plainview, N.Y.).

Thomas Named NECC Player of the Year
ATTLEBORO, Mass. All five sponsored programs were represented on the 2010 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Mens Volleyball All-Conference Team, it was announced today by Commissioner Del Malloy. In addition to the All-NECC honors, four separate major individual award winners and the team sportsmanship award were also voted upon and selected this week.

Newbury Defeats Daniel Webster for Conference Title
The Newbury College mens volleyball team won the 2010 New England Collegiate Conference Championship with a 3-0 victory over Daniel Webster College Saturday afternoon. Senior Mark Thomas (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug Regional) earned All-Tournament MVP with 25 kills on the day.

2010 NECC Mens Volleyball Championship Pairings Announced
ATTLEBORO, Mass.-Newbury College has claimed the top seed for the 2010 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Mens Volleyball Championship, which takes place Saturday, March 27th on the campus of Hellenic College in Brookline, Mass. The Nighthawks (19-9 overall) earned the top spot in the upcoming NECC tournament after finishing undefeated at 8-0 in conference.

The Newbury College mens volleyball team took Endicott College to five games Tuesday evening before the Gulls came away with the 3-2 win. Endicott senior A.J. Witkofsky (Scotia, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston) led seven players in double digit kills with a match-high 30 kills.

Thomas & Amylon Collect NECC Weekly Honors
Newbury College senior outside hitter Mark Thomas (Wilbraham, Mass.) earned Player of the Week honors putting up big numbers to help the Nighthawks clinch the #1 seed and host the upcoming NECC championships with a perfect 8-0 conference record. Fellow Nighthawk, Newbury College freshman defensive specialist Alex Amylon (Scituate, R.I.) earned Rookie of the Week grabbing 22 digs averaging 2.4 digs per set.

The Newbury College mens volleyball team swept Wentworth Institute of Technology and Southern Vermont College, 6-0, in Saturday afternoons tri-match at Hellenic College. Senior Mark Thomas (Wilbraham, MA) sealed the first match against Wentworth with a match high 15 kills to give the Nighthawks the 3-0 victory.

Kim Helps Nighthawks Sweep Blazers
The Newbury College mens volleyball team swept Elms College Thursday evening, 3-0. Sophomore Dan Kim (Plainview, NY/Plainview JFK) was one of the most consistent players on the night, tallying three kills in each game, helping the Nighthawks to two 30-21 wins in games two and three. The New York native finished the game with nine kills while picking up a game-high three assisted blocks.

MIT RALLIES TO DEFEAT NEWBURY, 3-2
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. The MIT mens volleyball team gave Newbury College its first North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) New England Division loss following a 30-22, 22-30, 24-30, 30-23, 15-13 thriller on Tuesday night. Of the 10 previous meetings between both programs, only one other match went to five sets and it was won by the Engineers in 2008. Mark Thomas powered the Nighthawks (14-8, 8-1 NECVA) with 15 kills and five blocks as Josh Aberly added 15 kills of his own. Matt Talamantes registered 47 assists and six digs.

Junior Jared Andreozzi (Barrington, RI/Barrington) led the Raiders to their 18th victory of the season tallying a team-high 14 kills and four aces. Mark Thomas (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug Regional) finished the game with a game-high 15 kills and three assisted blocks while senior Joshua Aberly (Palatine, IL/Palatine) followed up with 11 kills.

Thomas Earns Player of the Week Honors
Newbury College senior outside hitter Mark Thomas (Wilbraham, Mass.) led the Nighthawks to a 3-0 week, defeating Daniel Webster 3-1, Mt. Ida 3-0 and Regis 3-0. Thomas had 38 kills, ten digs, ten blocks, one assist and eight service aces. He tallied a sizzling .676 attack percentage with only four errors on the week.

Copher Tabbed NECC Rookie of the Week
Newbury College freshman setter Sean Copher (Northlake, Ill.) helped the Nighthawks to a 3-0 week with 44 assists. For the three matches, Copher tallied 6.2 assist per set, 1.0 digs per set and 0.1 blocks per set.

The Lesley University mens volleyball team dropped a conference home match to Newbury College 3-0 (30-12, 30-24, 30-12) and saw their season record fall to 2-10 (2-6 NECVA, 2-4 NECC). Newbury improved to 13-4 (9-0 NECVA, 6-0 NECC) follow the straight set victory. Newbury seniors Joshua Aberly (PALATINE, Ill./Palatine) and Mark Thomas (WILBRAHAM, Mass./Minnechaug Regional) led the Nighthawks offensively with 15 and 14 kills, respectively.

NEWBURY COLLEGE MEN'S VOLLEYBALL TAKES 3-0 NECVA WIN OVER REGIS IN TRI-MATCH
The Nighthawks and visiting Pride from Regis College faced off in match two of the days tri-match at Mount Ida College in Newton, Massachusetts. Newbury captured their second victory in arrow winning in another 3-0 blowout by scores of 30-13, 30-25, and 30-14. The Nighthawks improve to 15-3, 7-0 in the NECVA New England division while the Pride falls to 1-14, 0-8 in the NECVA New England division.

Senior Mark Thomas (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug Regional) paved the way to victory with a game-high 14 kills and five solo blocks. Senior Joshua Aberly (Palatine, IL/Palatine) followed up Thomass 14 kills with 12 of his own while junior James Beck (Havre de Grace, MD/Havre de Grace) was solid for the Nighthawks in the win.

Newbury Ranked #10 in NECVA Weekly Poll
The North East Collegiate Volleyball Association, the largest known single-sport conference in the United States, is in its 16th year of competition during the 2010 season as a leading Division III mens volleyball conference. Founded in 1995 as the Metro Conference, it became known as the NECVA in 1998. There is a three-way tie for 10th place between Newbury College (9-4), Nazareth (5-6) and MIT (11-4). The NECVA will release its weekly Top 10 Poll each Tuesday, leading up to the 2010 NECVA championship, April 9-11, in Cape Cod, Mass.

Daley Tabbed NECC Player of the Week
PLAYER OF THE WEEK Newbury College sophomore outside hitter Max Daley (Cranston, R.I.) tallied a sizzling .527 attack percentage for their 2-0 NECC week. Daley helped sweep Lesley and Elms both 3-0 wins. He hammered up a .688 attack percentage with only one error against the Blazers. For the two match week, Daley tallied 4.0 kills per set, 0.3 digs per set, 0.2 assists per set and 0.5 blocks per set.

The Newbury College Mens Volleyball team defeated visiting Lesley University tonight 3-0 (30-15,30-22,30-10), in Brookline, MA. The Nighthawks were led by junior middle hitter, Max Daley (Cranston, RI) with 12 kills and a .400 hitting percentage. In game one, Newbury jumped out to an early lead and never looked back behind the again stellar performance of outside hitter Mark Thomas (Wilbraham, MA). Thomas hit an outstanding 1.000 percent to go along with five kills and two blocks.

Talamantes Earns NECC Player of the Week
PLAYER OF THE WEEK Newbury College junior setter Matt Talamantes (Sylmar, Cal.) tallied a .391 attack percentage and averaged a stellar 11.41 assists per game. He guided the team to a tough six match week going 2-4 with two big wins over Hunter and Nazareth. For the six match week, Talamantes tallied 1.45 kills per set, 1.23 digs per set and .64 blocks per set.

Men's Volleyball Stevens Invitational Recap
The Nighthawks traveled to New Jersey over the weekend to compete in an Invitational Tournament at Stevens Institute of Technology. Newbury finished 2-1 on the weekend defeating Hunter College 3-2 and Nazareth College 3-1 before falling to the hosts 3-1 in the final game of play.

Nighthawks Fall to No. 9 Vassar
POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (January 20, 2010) The season opening match for the No. 9 nationally ranked Vassar College mens volleyball team had all the makings of an epic marathon against visiting Newbury College, but a mix of newcomers blended with veteran leadership propelled the Brewers to a workmanlike 3-0 victory. The Nighthawks were led by senior Mark Thomas with 11 kills and junior James Beck with nine. Junior Matt Talamantes had 26 assists. Beck contributed 26 digs.

Men's Volleyball Tabbed Preseason Favorite in NECVA New England Division
JERSEY CITY, NJ (www.necva.org)...Newbury College has been selected as the 2010 preseason favorite to win the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) New England Division in a vote of the divisions nine head coaches. The Nighthawks received 74 of a possible 81 points and four first-place votes. Newbury was 24-13 last year and 11-3 in the league.

The Nighthawks (24-13, 7-1) received all five first-place votes in the 2010 NECC preseason poll.
