Newbury Volleyball & Softball Honored for Academic Excellence
Members of the Newbury College men's volleyball and softball teams were honored for their superb academic performance by being named to the New England Collegiate Conference Academic All-Conference Team. A total of 40 student-athletes from the NECC received this honor for the winter/spring 2009 semester, including Nighthawks Joshua Aberly, Timothy MacMillan, Bryan McDermand, Matthew Sadowski, Mark Thomas, and Leanne Merritt.

Nighthawks Finish Second in ECAC Championship
The top-seeded Elms College Blazers battled to a thrilling 3-2 (31-29, 27-30, 35-33, 21-30, 15-13) win over second-seeded Newbury in the championship match of the 2009 ECAC Men's Volleyball North Tournament on Saturday afternoon at the Maguire Center. Nighthawk junior middle hitter Mark Thomas (Wilbraham, MA) was nearly unstoppable for Newbury in the title match, as he finished with a match-high 29 kills and hit .356

Thomas Named to Second-Team All-NECVA; Nighthawks Gear up for ECAC's
The Newbury College mens volleyball team was tabbed the #2 seed in the 2009 ECAC Division III North Region Mens Volleyball Championship and will travel to host and #1 seed Elms College on Saturday, April 11th to take on #3 Endicott College in a semifinal match beginning at 1:00 PM.

Six Nighthawks Named to All-Conference Team
Six Newbury College mens volleyball players were named to the All-New England Collegiate Conference team last week. The Nighthawks and Blazers of Elms College grabbed all six slots on the first team while Newbury landed two players on the second team. Junior Mark Thomas (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug Regional) headlined Newbury on the All- conference first team. Thomas earned his 1,000th career kill against the University of New Haven on February 9 and leads the team with 462 kills, 36 solo blocks and 73 assisted blocks.

Nighthawks Defeated in First Round of NECVA Tourney
No. 10 seeded Philadelphia Biblical University recorded a 30-27, 28-30, 30-16, 30-20, victory over No. 7 Newbury College in the first round of the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) Championship Tournament on Friday. With the win the nationally-ranked No. 7 Crimson Eagles improved to 21-11 on the year and will take on No. 2 seed and nationally-ranked No. 5 Nazareth College in quarterfinal action on Saturday. The Nighthawks closed their season with a ledger of 23-12.

Nighthawks to Face Crimson Eagles in 2009 NECVA Tournament
Newbury College claimed the 7th seed in the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association tournament after finishing second in the New England Division behind Endicott College. Making their third consecutive tournament appearance and fourth overall, the Nighthawks will face the 10th seeded Philadelphia Biblical University Crimson Eagles at host M.I.T in Cambridge, MA, Friday night April 3 at 8:00 pm.

The #2 seeded Blazers of Elms College take home the inaugural New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Mens Volleyball Championship title after upsetting the #1 seeded Nighthawks of Newbury College in four sets

Newbury to Host NECC Mens Volleyball Championship
Newbury College will host the inaugural New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) mens volleyball championship this Saturday at Hellenic College. The championship format will be a four-team single elimination tournament. The Nighthawks will kick off the first match of the semifinals as the number one seed against the fourth seeded Lynx of Lesley University at 11:00 am.

Nighthawks Edge Past Leopards, 3-1
Newbury College mens volleyball team sent their three seniors out on positive note with a 3-1 victory over the Wentworth Institute of Technology Thursday evening at Hellenic College. With the win, the Nighthawks improve to 22-10 (11-3 NECVA) while the Leopards fall to 9-11 (6-8 NECVA). Junior Mark Thomas (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug Regional) was one of four Nighthawks with double digit kills leading the team with 18. The Nighthawks middle hitter also had a team-high three solo blocks and three assisted blocks.

Nighthawks Storm to Victory Over Gulls
The Newbury College mens volleyball team defeated Endicott College in dramatic fashion Tuesday night, 3-1. With the win the Nighthawks improve to 21-10 while the Gulls fall to 19-10. Down by four in the fourth game it looked as if the match was going to a game five but that is when Newbury mounted their comeback. Sophomore James Beck (Havre de Grace, MD/Havre de Grace) was the sparkplug for the Nighthawks, guiding his teammates to the victory.

Nighthawks Glide, Sweep Tri-Match
The Newbury College mens volleyball team swept Lesley University and Southern Vermont College, 6-0, in Saturday afternoons tri-match at Hellenic College. Freshman James Krizka (Buffalo Grove, IL/Buffalo Grove) sealed the first match against the Lynx with a kill to give the Nighthawks the 3-0 victory.

12th Ranked Newbury Tops Eagles, 3-1
The trio of Matt Talamantes (Sylmar, Cal.), Mark Thomas (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Bryan McDermand (Palatine, Ill.) registered 16 kills each with Talamantes adding a match high 25 digs as 12th-ranked Newbury College topped host Daniel Webster College, 3-1 in a NECVA New England Division and NECC meeting Thursday night at Mario Vagge Gymnasium.

The Emmanuel College Mens Volleyball Team upset the 12th-ranked Nighthawks of Newbury College in a St. Patricks Day thriller, which featured the Saints pulling off a three-set sweep over the national powerhouse squad from Newbury.

Nighthawks Soar Over Eagles
Tuesday evenings match-up between Newbury College and Daniel Webster College marked the first ever match between the two institutions and the Nighthawks handed the Eagles their first NECC loss of the year, 3-0.

Blazers Overpower Nighthawks
The Nighthawk Mens Volleyball team dropped their 4th straight match to visiting Elms College tonight in Brookline, MA by a score of 3-1. The victory marked the Blazers first-ever win against the Nighthawks in 15 all-time meetings dating back to 2003.

Emerson Battles, Newbury Prevails
The Newbury Mens Volleyball team improved their overall record to 14-1 with a three-game victory over Emerson College tonight in Brookline, MA. The Lions would not go down quietly, however, as the first-year squad scored 26, 22, and 16 points against the defending ECAC Champion Nighthawks.

Thomas Records 1000th Kill; Newbury Soars
Coming off their first place victory in the Gothic Knight Invitational, the Newbury mens volleyball team defeated the University of New Haven 3-1, Monday night. With the win, the Nighthawks improve to 13-1 on the season while the Chargers drop to 2-2.

Nighthawks Defeat MIT; Claim first victory against Engineers since 2005
For the first time in four years, the Newbury College Nighthawks mens volleyball team defeated the Engineers from MIT with a 3-1 win. Newbury picks up their eighth win of the season, pushing their winning streak to six games.

Nighthawks Sweep Tri-Match
The Newbury College Mens Volleyball team hosted Emmanuel and Mount Ida Colleges for a tri-match today at Hellenic College. The Nighthawks went 2-0 on the day first defeating the Mustangs in three quick games and finishing with a thrilling five-game victory over the Saints.

Newbury Upsets Vassar
Beginning the home season with a victory is most always considered a good start. Upsetting the #1 team in the New England Collegiate Volleyball Association and redeeming a loss that ended a fantastic run in 2008 is even sweeter. Tonight, in a match played at Hellenic College, the Newbury College Nighthawks defeated the visiting Brewers from Vassar College by a score of 3-2 with hopes that they will savor the win just long enough to let the momentum drive them through the upcoming months of their season.

Newbury Tops NECC Mens Volleyball Preseason Poll
ATTLEBORO,Mass. - Newbury College has been tabbed as the preseason favorite to capture the New England Collegiate Conference men's volleyball title, it was announced today by Commissioner Del Malloy. Voting for the preseason poll was conducted among the NECC's head mens volleyball coaches. This is the inaugural year for the New England Collegiate Conference. Five of the nine NECC members sponsor mens volleyball.
