AMCATS defeat Nighthawks for second straight win
PAXTON, Mass. – One day after capturing the first conference victory in program history, the Anna Maria College men’s tennis team defeated Daniel Webster by the score of 8-1 in a non-conference matchup at Paxton Sports Centre on Sunday night. The win improves the AMCATS to 3-9 (1-7 TCCC) on the season, while the Nighthawks fall to 0-9 (0-4 NECC).
Anna Maria earned victories in all three doubles matches to start the night. Mike Dandurand (Warwick, R.I.) and David Bourget (Winter Park, Fla.) captured their No.1 doubles match 8-2, while the duo of Jesus Torres (Southbridge, Mass.) and Haakim Ferguson (Boston, Mass.) took No.3 doubles by the same score. Adam Williamson (Spencer, Mass.) and James Maloney (Sterling, Mass.) were also victorious, taking No.2 doubles convincingly by a score of 8-1.
The AMCATS went on to earn points in five of the six singles matches, with Bourget earning a 6-0, 6-2 win in No.1 singles. Dandurand, Williamson, and Maloney followed with wins in No.3, No.4, and No.5 singles, respectively, while Torres swept his No.6 singles match by a score of 6-0, 6-0.
Sophomore Benjamin Weiner (Barrington, R.I.) earned the lone point on the night for Newbury with a 6-2, 6-3 win in No.2 singles.
The Nighthawks will take to the courts again on Thursday when they face off against Mitchell, while the AMCATS will look to continue their winning ways in a TCCC matchup versus Endicott on Monday.
