Brookline, MA -- Husson's Nick Whitehead scored 4:48 into the first overtime period to send the Eagles home victorious with a 2-1 victory over Newbury College at Hellenic College on Tuesday afternoon.
With the win, the Eagles improve to 7-5 (4-2 NAC), while the Nighthawks drop to 3-10 (1-2 NECC).
After a scoreless first half that saw Husson hold a 7-4 shot advantage, the Eagles gained a 1-0 lead when Rod Ghanayem slotted home a penalty kick. However, the lead did not last long, as Newbury's Nicholas Olivares-Thompson tapped in a feed from classmate Darwood Antoine after a scramble in front of the Husson net.
Despite being outshot 17-10 in regular time, the Nighthawks did produce some early offensive chances in the overtime period. After goalscoring chances by Alex Strafer and Jose Palma fell by the wayside the Eagles of Husson countered quickly to release Whitehead down the left side. Whitehead lobbed the ball over the goalkeeper, beating Tran to the far post, despite the sophomore getting a hand on the attempt.
The Nighthawks return to action Saturday afternoon when they host Wheelock College at 3:00 PM. The NECC matchup will take place at Hellenic College.
