Beavers Edged Past Nighthawks, 2-0
The Newbury College men's soccer team fell to the University of Maine – Farmington, 2-0, Saturday afternoon. The Beavers improve to 4-3-2 while the Nighthawks drop to 1-5 on the season.
University of Maine-Farmington sophomore Jake Constantine (Woodland, N.J.) scored the game-winner 11 minutes into the contest. Constantine headed a pass from freshman Viktor Nilsson (Linkoping, Sweden) past Newbury goalkeeper junior William McNally (Grafton, Mass.), at 10:51, for the first points of the game.
The Beavers defense held strong in a tight contest, keeping the Nighthawks off the board. UMaine-Farmington freshman goalkeeper Tennessee Peters (Scarborough, Maine) recorded two saves in 90 minutes of action.
Newbury junior Joseph Jacobsen (Salisbury, Mass.) played solid for the Nighthawks. In a close, physical game, he recorded two shots including a shot-on-goal late in the contest. Sophomore Shaundize Moosavizadeh (Winchester, Mass.) and junior Andi Maska (Roslindale, Mass.) also recorded two shots each in the loss.
Newbury returns to the pitch on Tuesday October 5th when they travel to Buzzards Bay, Mass. to square off against Massachusetts Maritime Academy in a non-conference game at 7:00pm. The University of Maine – Farmington will also be in action on Tuesday at Colby College at 4:00pm.
