Nighthawks Fall To Eagles, 5-0

Nashua, NH – The Newbury College men’s soccer season came to a close after a 5-0 loss, in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) semifinals, to the Daniel Webster College Eagles, Friday afternoon. Eagles senior Michael Lohr(Chepachet, R.I.) netted two goals for the Eagles during the first half in the victory.

This victory, combined with fifth-seeded Southern Vermont's stunning 0-0 tie and 3-2 PK advance over top seeded Lesley late Friday night, gives the Eagles home field for the second straight season in the NECC Championship with the winner advancing to the NCAA tournament. The defending champions will host the Mountaineers on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

Lohr launched the ball from 30-yards away to score the first Daniel Webster goal of the game 23-minutes into play.

Ben Anthony (Greenfield, N.H.) took a feed from Rick Trafton(Raymond, N.H.) between two Nighthawk defenders and past the opponent's goalkeeper for a goal in the 35^th minute of the game.

A corner kick by Lohr just three minutes later hooked into the net, giving the Eagles a 3-0 lead at the end of the first period. 

As several Eagle players battled for possession of the ball in front of the Nighthawks' goal at the 67-minute mark, Tim Amberman(Shrewsbury, Penn.) was able to kick the ball in for a fourth Eagle goal.

With just ten minutes left in the game, a pass from Max Howe(Concord, N.H.) was intercepted by a Nighthawks player who inadvertently knocked the ball into Newbury's goal for another Eagle score.

Daniel Webster controlled the pace of the game from start to finish, ending with the advantage in both overall shots (20-7) and shots on goal (10-1).

Junior William McNally (Grafton, Mass.) recorded five saves during his 75 minutes in goal, while freshman Jeremy Bergeron (Fitchburg, Mass.) had one save in 15 minutes as goalkeeper for Newbury.

Joe Keene (Bristol, N.H.) recorded one save in 80 minutes for the Eagles, as he split time in goal with Tom Al Naber(Parkton, Md.).
