Hawks Take Second game Against Nighthawks, 3-1
The Newbury College men’s soccer team fell to Becker College, 3-1, in the second game of the women’s-men’s soccer doubleheader, Saturday afternoon. Hawks junior Timothy Howard (Paxton, MA/Wachusett) scored the game-winner in the 20th minute of the contest off a rebound.
Junior Jinaldo DeBrito (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford Voc.) put Becker on the board in the 15th minute of the contest on a cross pass from freshman Aldo Karkanjozi (Sterling Heights, MI/Stevenson). Five mintues Howard found the back of the net off a rebound from sophomore Steve Araujo (Westport, MA/Westport) to take the 2-0 advantage. The Hawks added to the lead mid-way through the second half. Karkanjozi added to the lead with an unassisted goal off a direct kick.
Freshman Nicholas Cataldo (Walpole, MA/Sturgis Charter School) broke up the shutout in the 88th minute. Sophomore Shaundize Moosavizadeh (Winchester, MA/Winchester) found an open Cataldo in front of the Becker net to put the Nighthawks on the board.
With the loss, Newbury falls to 1-8 on the season and 1-1 in the conference while Becker improves to 7-4-1 and 2-0 in the NECC. The Nighthawks return to action on Thursday October 14th when they travel to Wheelock College for a conference game against the Wildcats at 3:30pm.
