Nighthawks Fail to Tame Lions
The Newbury College men's soccer team dropped a non-conference match today to visiting Emerson College by a score of 5-0. Chris Nenchati (Swampscott, MA/Swampscott) led the Lions with two goals while teammate Nick Giles (Wakefield, RI/South Kingstown) added one goal and one assist.
The first half was dominated by the victors as they outshot the Nighthawks 9-1. Giles found the back of the net just 8:25 into the game as junior Sean Batson (Boulder, CO/Boulder) found him on the tail end of a great run down field. Eric Dabdoub (Monterrey, Mexico) would score off a feed from Giles to bring the lead to 2-0 at the break.
Newbury would turn up the intensity to start the second half, taking eight shots over the final 45 minutes. The Lions responded, however, taking 16 shots in the second half alone. Brian Doyle (Mahwah, NJ/Mahwah) scored at 47:20 and Nenchati sealed the victory with two back-to-back goals at 68:44 and 81:57.
Nighthawk goalkeeper William McNally (Grafton, MA/Marian) recorded 13 saves on the afternoon and looks to lead his squad to a New England Collegiate Conference victory over Daniel Webster College tomorrow afternoon.
