BROOKLINE, Mass. – The Newbury College men's golf team finished second at the second Nighthawk Kickoff Classic Tournament carding a season-low, team-score of 333, Monday afternoon. Wentworth Institute of Technology finished first in the five-team field with a team-score of 321.
Finishing atop the 26-player field, Mitchell College first year Andrew Abbott (Walpole, Mass.) posted a two-under, 33, on the back nine. The Walpole native was lights out on the backside, recording four of five birdies from the 12th hole to the 16th hole to earn medalist honors firing a score of even par, 71.
Wentworth sophomore Paul Arsenault (Middleton, Mass.) lead the Leopards posting a two-over par, 73 to finish second well Newbury first year JayCub Lever (Saugus, Mass.) rounded out the top three carding a career-low round of 75. Senior Matteo Pocobene (Malden, Mass.) led Emmanuel College to fourth place, 362, firing a team-low score of 78.
Playing in his second tournament of his collegiate career, first year Mark Travers (Norwood, Mass.) continued to improve, besting his score from the Mitchell Invitational. The south shore native came out of the gate strong, opening day with three straight pars but fell off the par-train, bogeying the next three holes as he finish the front nine with a score of 44.
Fellow Nighthawk golfer Colin Davis (Marshfield, Mass.) turned in a scorecard of an 84 while fellow first year A.J. Skinner (Quincy, Mass.) carded a score of an 83 on the afternoon. First year Dawud Moragne (Makawao, Hawaii) rounded out the Nighthawks with a score of 98.
The Nighthawks return to the links on Wednesday September 23rd when they host the second annual Newbury College Invitational at Franklin Park's William Devine Golf Club in Dorchester, Mass. at 10:00 A.M.
