Langston Tallies 1000th Point In Loss to Emerson

Brookline, Mass -- Geoffrey Gray (Newton, Mass. / Newton South) tallied a 29 point triple-double to lead the Emerson College Lions to a season-opening victory over the Newbury College Nighthawks by a score of 99-83 Saturday afternoon at Pappas Gymnasium on the campus of Hellenic College.

Gray finished with 10 rebounds and 10 assists while making 9-of-15 shots including an efficient 8-for-10 from the free throw line.  The junior guard also collected two steals on the afternoon.

Senior Michael Sheng (Altadena, Calf./ Harvard-Westlake) added 22 points on 7-of-14 shooting and pulled down five rebounds and handed out three assists for the Lions while sophomore Jack O'Connor (Newport, R.I./ St. George's School) contributed 18 points, eight rebounds and five assists of the bench.

The Nighthawks were led Davion Edwards' (Roxbury, Mass/ Brighton)  23 points (8-for-23) and Jeduan Langston's (Roxbury, Mass/ Dorchester Academy)  22 points (7-of-12).  Langston collected his 1,000th career point on a made free throw at the 16:46 mark of the second half prior to fouling out of the contest.

Freshman Miguel Rivera (Waterbury, Conn./ Crosby)  had a team-high seven assists for the Nighthawks while Langston and Edwards each had five rebounds.

The Nighthawks held a 42-39 halftime lead but were outscored 60-41 in the final 20 minutes to drop to 0-2 on the young season.  The Lions improve to 1-0.

Emerson finished 52.5% from the field on 32-of-61 shooting while Newbury made 27 of 68 shots (39.7%).  The Lions took home a 43-33 rebounding advantage and dished out 26 assists to Newbury's 16.

Emerson will look to go 2-0 on the season when they host Suffolk University on November 21st. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM. The Nighthawks are back in action on Tuesday, November 28th when they travel to Rivier University for a 7:00 PM tip-off.
