Men's Basketball Downed By Nichols in Season Opener

Dudley, Mass. - Daivon Edwards scored 27 points on 10-22 shooting however the Newbury College Nighthawks dropped their season opener against Nichols College, 117-72, on Wednesday night in Dudley, Mass on the campus of Nichols. It was the first game for both institutions and also the first game in charge for newly appointed head coach Rich Fazzi.

Nichols jumped out to an impressive 47-22 halftime lead before scoring 70 points en route to the victory. The Nighthawks shot just 36.5 % (27-74) from the floor while the Bison converted 50-105 (47.6%).  Nichols also held a decisive 75-35 rebound advantage and dished out 33 assists compared to the 11 Newbury offered up. 

Jeduan Langston added 19 points for the Nighthawks on 7 of 16 shooting while collecting seven rebounds and dishing out five assists. Edwards added five rebounds and three steals to his stat line on the night. 

Nichols was paced by Jerome Cunningham's 28 points on 13-16 shooting while DeAnte Bruton and Deaquon Antoine added 19 and 18 points, respectively. Cunningham also had a game-high 20 rebounds.

The Nighthawks return to action on Saturday, November 18th when they host the Emerson College Lions in the home opener.  Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 pm at Pappas Gymnasium on the campus of Hellenic College.
