Thompson Drops Career Game-High 26-Points on Eagles
Nashua – Sophomore guard Kwame Thompson (Brockton, Mass.) dropped a career single game-high, 26 points on Daniel Webster College, Tuesday evening, in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action. However, the Eagles proved to be too much as they escaped the early week match-up with the 77-69 victory.
Daniel Webster sophomore Daris Cosby (Albany, N.Y.) paved the way to victory for the Eagles notching a team-high 24 points with four three-pointers and eight rebounds while classmate Dave Feinstein (Londonderry, N.H.) followed up with 14 points.
DWC shot a stunning 73% in the second half after hitting on 43% in the first, building as much as an 18-point lead after a Justin Lewandowski (Bordentown, N.J.) layup at the midway mark of the period. But Newbury clawed its way back using a 17-7 run to trim the lead to a nail-biting 64-60 game with 2:50 to go after a steal by Thompson and layup from sophomore guard Steve Rosemond (Everett, Mass.).
Rosemond followed up Thompson's night registering 18 points while first year center Cameron Owen (Concord, N.H.) continued to show immense improvement as a shooter. As Thompson was on his way to his own career game-high, Owen was not going to be out-done, topping his 12 points against Becker College last Tuesday evening, by draining 16 on the Eagles.
After Owen buried one at the line for a six-point game, Daniel Webster rookie Khial Watson (Chesterfield, Mich.) converted an off-balance layup on the right post for a 70-62 score with 47 seconds left.
But Newbury again crawled back as Thompson buried a trey followed by a Rosemond steal and another Thompson layup to make it 71-67 with 32 seconds remaining in regulation.
After drawing the inbounds foul, Cosby sealed the game for Daniel Webster knocking down both of his free-throws while Watson netting two to push the Eagle lead to eight with 14 seconds left.
The loss drops the Nighthawks to 5-11 and 2-6 in NECC action while the Eagles return to .500 in the conference at 4-4 and 5-10 overall. Newbury looks to return to their winning ways on Thursday January 26 when they host Southern Vermont College. Tip-off's at 8:00 p.m.
