Hawks Fly Over Nighthawks
Leicester, Mass. – The Newbury College men’s basketball team dropped the season series to Becker College after the Hawks defeated the Nighthawks, 82-58, Thursday evening. Becker senior Trae Jacobs (Lexington Park, MD) paved the way to the Hawks fourth straight victory registering his 1,400 career point with 14 points and seven rebounds In the contest.
Rajai Leggett (New Haven, Conn.) connected on 8-of-11 shots from the field for a game-high 16 points in just 25 minutes for the Hawks. Terrance Favors (Boston, Mass.) added 14 points and Ricky Clark (New Britain, Conn.) chipped in 11 points in a strong performance off the bench.
Senior guard John Rowley Jr (Hartford, Conn.) kept the visiting Nighthawks in the contest draining a team-high 11 points while sophomore Peterson Bernard (Boston, Mass.) as a force in the post on defense. Two points shy of a double-double, Bernard cleaned up the glass, ripping down a game-high 14 rebounds in addition to his eight points. Classmates Rondell Best (Brockton, Mass.) and Timothy Young (Brockton, Mass.) each poured on 10 points in the loss to round out the Nighthawks in double figures.
Newbury falls back to .500 at 2-2 in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action, 3-10 overall, with the loss while Becker remains undefeated, improving to 4-0 in the conference and 12-2 overall. The Nighthawks return to the hard-court Saturday afternoon at 12:00pm when they host the Elms College Blazers.
