Nighthawks Fall to Pilgrims
The Newbury College men's basketball team fell to the visiting Pilgrims of New England College tonight by a score of 57-54 in a non-conference match-up played at Hellenic College. With the loss, the Nighthawks fall to 1-3 while the Pilgrims bring their record to an even 3-3.
Newbury struggled to develop a rhythm throughout the first half allowing the visitors to pull ahead to a 32-21 halftime advantage. They were led by Joe Faragher (North Ridgeville, OH/North Ridgeville) and Rafael Salado (Boston, MA/Lowell) who chipped in eight points a piece while Faragher also ripped down five boards.
The Nighthawks began to chip away throughout the second half cutting the deficit to one at the 2:30 mark as senior captain Paul Beckford Jr. (Somerville, MA/Somerville) made a quick steal and layup to ignite the crowd. It would be quickly tamed, however, as New England College freshman Abdi Mohamed (Biddeford, ME/Biddeford) hit a clutch three-pointer to put his squad back up by four en route to the victory.
Despite the loss, Newbury received solid efforts from John Rowley, Jr. (Hartford, CT/Rockville) and Timothy Young (Brockton, MA/Brockton) who finished with 16 and 15 points, respectively.
The Nighthawks take the court on Thursday, December 3rd when they host the Engineers of MIT at 7:00 PM.
