Becker Overpowers Newbury

Leicester, Mass. - Becker College defeated Newbury College 95-67 tonight in New England Collegiate Conference men's basketball action. With the win the Hawks pick up their 16^th win of the season to improve to 16-8 (12-1 NECC), the Nighthawks drop to 6-18 (4-9 NECC).

The first half featured eight lead changes in the first nine minutes of the game with the score tied 19-19 with eleven minutes to play. The Hawks then took control of the game going on a 31-11 run the rest of the way to take a comfortable twenty point lead into the locker room. Trey Jacobs (Lexington Park, MD) and Terrance Favors (Boston, Mass.) led the way for Becker with 13 and 16 points respectively. The Nighthawks first half leading scorer was Tim Young (Brockton, Mass.) with 9 points. Becker out rebounded Newbury 28-15 in the half and created ten turnovers.

Becker continued their dominance in the second half and maintained the lead the rest of the way. Jacobs finished the night with a double-double 21 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Favors finished with a game high 26 points. Sophomore Markus Wright (New Haven, Conn.) contributed 13 points off the bench.

Newbury ended the game with three players in double figures, Young had 14 points, Chris Torres (Brockton, Mass.) had a team high 16 points and Samuel Stanford (Somerville, Mass.) had eleven.

Newbury shot 43% for the game to Becker's 49%.

The Hawks wrap up the regular season with a NECC match-up on Saturday vs. Wheelock College at home at 1:00pm.
