Young Named Rookie of the Year
ATTLEBORO, Mass. – All eight of the sponsored programs were represented on 2010 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Men’s Basketball All-Conference Team, it was announced today by Commissioner Del Malloy. In addition to the All-NECC honors, three separate major individual award winners and the team sportsmanship award were also voted upon and selected this week.

Nighthawks End Season With Loss To Elms
The Newbury College men’s basketball team lost their final game of the season, 97-75, to Elms College in the first game of the men’s-women’s double-header, Saturday afternoon. Before the game, the Nighthawks honored seniors Phillip Batista (Marlborough, MA/Marlboro), Paul Beckford Jr. (Somerville, MA/Somerville), Michael Foley (Oxford, ME/Oxford Hills Comprehensive), Samuel Stanford (Somerville, MA/Somerville) for their four years of service to the program.

Becker Overpowers Newbury
Leicester, Mass. – Becker College defeated Newbury College 95-67 tonight in New England Collegiate Conference men’s basketball action. With the win the Hawks pick up their 16th win of the season to improve to 16-8 (12-1 NECC), the Nighthawks drop to 6-18 (4-9 NECC). Newbury ended the game with three players in double figures, Timothy Young (Brockton, Mass.) had 14 points, Chris Torres (Brockton, Mass.) had a team high 16 points and Samuel Stanford (Somerville, Mass.) had eleven.

Nighthawks Fall to Wildcats
Senior Sherard Robbins (Malden, Mass.)scored a team-high 20 points and three other Wildcats hit double figures as the Wheelock men’s basketball team defeated Newbury College 88-64 Wednesday night at Simmons College. Freshman Chris Torres (Brockton, Mass.) led the Nighthawks with 20 points while fellow Freshman Timothy Young (Brockton, Mass.) hit 4 three pointers in scoring 17 points.

O'Connell, Young, & Beck Sweep NECC Awards
Three Newbury College student-athletes earned weekly conference honors as announced by the New England Collegiate Conference. Catherine O'Connell (Quincy, MA), Timothy Young (Brockton, MA), and James Beck (Havre de Grace, MD) collected accolades for women's basketball, men's basketball, and men's volleyball, respectively.

Mountaineers Down Nighthawks In NECC Barnburner
BENNINGTON, Vt. – The Southern Vermont College men’s basketball team prevailed over visiting New England Collegiate Conference rival Newbury College 77-75 in a barnburner that had the 300-plus crowd on its feet until the final buzzer. Southern Vermont led by as much as 22 in the first half, but the Nighthawks scored 47 in the second half to cut the lead to two points with :05 left to play.

Nighthawks Fly High Over Eagles
Freshman guard Timothy Young (Brockton, MA/Brockton) drained a long field goal with three seconds left in regulation to give Newbury College the 61-59 victory over Daniel Webster College, Thursday evening. Eagles junior Eric Suarez (Brooklyn, NY/Roosevelt) knotted up the contest at 59 before Young drained the walk-off field goal from the top of the key.

Nighthawks Fall To Mariners
The Newbury College men’s basketball team lost to Mitchell College, 63-62 in the second game of a women’s-men’s double-header, Saturday afternoon. Mitchell jumped out to the early lead but freshmen Timothy Young (Brockton, MA/Brockton) and Chris Torres (Brockton, MA/Brockton) helped bring the Nighthawks back. Young drained four treys in the first for 16 of his game-high 21 points while Torres added 10 points of his own.

FITCHBURG, Mass. (February 2, 2010) – Junior Robert Hopkins (East Hartford, Conn./RHAM) registered a team-high 16 points and four rebounds as Fitchburg State sniped Newbury College, 78-52 in non-conference action this evening.

The Newbury College men’s basketball team lost to Becker College, Saturday afternoon, 87-37. The Hawks shot 56% from the floor in the second half to remain undefeated in the NECC. In the second, senior Paul Beckford Jr. (Somerville, MA/Somerville) rebounded, adding eight points to his first half six to finish with a game-high 14 while ripping down 10 boards for his first double-double of the season; but it was not enough to stop the Hawks.

WENHAM, MA. -- Gordon blew out visiting Newbury 79-51 en route to its 9th straight victory in non-conference action in the Bennett Center on Tuesday night. The Nighthawk offense was led by Timothy Young, who displayed an assortment of one-on-one moves on his way to scoring 15 points. Freshman Rondell Best had 13 points and 9 rebounds, and had 2 breakaway dunks late in the second half.

Young Tabbed NECC Rookie of the Week
Once again, Newbury College freshman guard Timothy Young (Brockton, Mass.) was named NECC Rookie of the Week. Young averaged 12.6 points per game, 3.0 rebounds per game, 3.0 assists per game and 0.6 steals per game. He shot 36% (15-for-42) from the floor, 30% (6-for-20) from behind the arc and 100% (2-for-2) from charity stripe.

Lynx rally for a 50-48 win over Nighthawks
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Lesley University men’s basketball team took their only lead of the game against Newbury College with 1:24 remaining in the game following made free throws by John Sanchez (CARSON, Calif./Saint John Bosco) and held on to beat the Nighthawks 50-48. Newbury was led by John Rowley Jr. (HARTFORD, Conn./Rockville) and Rondell Best (TAUNTON, Mass./Brockton) who scored 13 and 10 points, respectively.

Three members of the 2009 Brockton High boys basketball team that won the Div. 1 South title are teammates again this season. Guards Timothy Young and Chris Torres and forward Rondell Best are freshmen at Newbury College in Brookline after helping the Boxers go 23-1 last season.

Nashua – John Rowley, Jr. (Hartford, Conn.) led the Nighthawks (4-9, 2-2 NECC) with 21 points, while Timothy Young (Brockton, Mass.) added 18 and Samuel Stanford (Somerville, Mass.) knocked down 15 including four three-pointers over the final 4:14 of the game as Newbury almost pulled off a remarkable comeback after trailing by as many as 20 in the second half.

The Newbury College men’s basketball team rebounded from the loss to Eastern Nazarene to defeat the Lynx of Lesley University, 68-61, in New England Collegiate Conference action Saturday afternoon. Freshman guard Timothy Young (Brockton, MA/Brockton) picked up his 211th point of the season to lead the Nighthawks to the victory. Nighthawk junior guard John Rowley Jr. (Hartford, CT/Rockville) was also solid in the win tallying 22 points.

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College men’s basketball team dropped a 72-63 decision to Newbury College on Tuesday night at the Yarnall Athletic Center. Newbury shot 51 percent from the floor and went 19-of-28 from the free throw line. Beckford finished with 12 points and nine rebounds while Rondell Best (Taunton, Mass.) added 11 points and five boards.

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College junior forward Edgar Martinez (Springfield, Mass.) netted a game-high 22 points and the Blazers snapped a three-game losing skid in a 97-75 victory over Newbury College in Saturday afternoon’s New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men’s basketball game at Picknelly Arena. Freshman Oasiris Yates (White Plains, NY/Valhalla) led the way in the Nighthawks' effort netting 14 of his team-high 20 points in the second half.

DaSilva Named Assistant Coach at Northern Arizona University
Mike Adras announced on Wednesday that he has promoted Ivan DaSilva from graduate assistant to assistant coach for the remainder of the season to fill the void left by former assistant Billy Hix. DaSilva came to NAU from Newbury College in Brookline, Mass., where he played for coach L.J. Harrington and served as a team captain in his final season.

Sophomore Noel Hollingsworth (Salt Lake City, UT/Judge Memorial Catholic) led the way for the Engineers recording a double-double, tallying 30 points and 11 rebounds in MIT’s seventh victory of the season.

In the second game of the opening night double-header, the Newbury College men’s basketball team kicked off the 2009-2010 season with a dramatic come-from-behind victory over visiting Anna Maria College, 66-62. The Nighthawks open the season at 1-0 while the Amcats fall to 0-1.

Nighthawk Men's Basketball Preview
The Nighthawks hope that the formula for a repeat of their 2008 ECAC Championship is 8+8 as they return eight letter-winners from last year’s squad and welcome eight newcomers to the 2009-2010 roster. Newbury finished with an overall record of just 7-19 last season, but posted conference sweeps of Southern Vermont College and Lesley University and now look to the year ahead to reclaim their title.
