Gordon Routs Newbury

WENHAM, MA. -- Gordon blew out visiting Newbury 79-51 en route
to its 9th straight victory in non-conference action in the Bennett
Center on Tuesday night.
Greg Walker led 4 Gordon players in double figures with 16.
Gordon was able to use its entire active roster in the
victory and no player logged more than 21 minutes.
The Scots shot out to an early 11-3 lead as Walker hit 4
consecutive buckets for Gordon. After establishing their inside
presence, the taller Scots began to do damage from the outside as
Aaron Trigg, Brady Bajema, and Garrett Harden all tallied from long
range in the first half. Gordon took a 35-18 lead into the break,
as the cold shooting Nighthawks were only 8 of 33 from the field in
the opening stanza.
The game quickly turned into a rout in the second half, as Gordon
scored 35 more points in just over 11 minutes, opening up a 70-34
lead. Aaron Trigg finished second to Walker with 14 points in 21
minutes, while Harden and Jeff Derr both came off the bench to
score 11 and 10 respectively. Gordon's largest lead came with 5:51
left after a Derr layup put the Scots up 75-36.
Gordon put together a season high 26 assists on the game, and
freshman forward David Dempsey led all players with 5 assists.
The Nighthawk offense was led by Timothy Young, who displayed an
assortment of one-on-one moves on his way to scoring 15 points.
Freshman Rondell Best had 13 points and 9 rebounds, and had 2
breakaway dunks late in the second half.
With the win, Gordon moves to 13-3 overall. They will carry their
5-0 TCCC record into Thursday's matchup against New England
College, at 8PM in Wenham. Newbury drops to 5-11 on the season.
They will host Southern Vermont College at 7PM on Thursday.
