Nighthawks Edge Lynx
The Newbury College Men's Basketball team is peaking at the right time. Hosting Lesley University Tuesday night at Hellenic College, the Nighthawks defeated the Lynx in a dramatic 56-54 victory to pick up their seventh win of the season.
With less then a minute left in regulation, the Nighthawks were trailing the Lynx 52-51 until freshman Corey Charubini (Hull, MA/Hull) drained a trey to put Newbury up 54-52 with 56 seconds left. From there, all the Nighthawks had to do was hit free throws. Following Lesley sophomore Jonathan Cruz's (Haverhill, MA/Haverhill) only personal foul of the game, Newbury sophomore John Rowley Jr. (Hartford, CT/Rockville) made both of his free throws to seal the game.
Charubini was 3-for-9 from the field - all of which were from behind the arc - and finished the game with 11 points. Senior Kevin Cleveland (Lynn, MA/Lynn) drained a team-high 13 points while Rowley and senior Walky Magliore (Waltham, MA/Waltham) finished with 12 points a piece.
The Lynx were led by sophomore Nijel Robinson's (Plainsboro, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro-South) with a game-high 25 points. While fellow sophomore, big man Jesus Trejo (Methuen, MA/Methuen) cleaned up under the net ripping down a game-high 22 rebounds and was one point shy of a double-double.
Newbury will go for their eighth win of the season when they travel to Wheelock College on Thursday, tip-off's at 7:00pm. The Nighthawks lost to the Wildcats back on January 29 at home, 79-61.
