Gordon Defeats Newbury

The Newbury College Men's Basketball team had been undefeated on their home court since January 24, 2008 until the Fighting Scots of Gordon College arrived.  Using a highly disciplined offense, they defeated the Nighthawks by a score of 84-66 tonight at Hellenic College.

Gordon was nearly unstoppable from behind the three-point line as they connected on 12 of 17; 5-9 in the first half and 7-8 in the second.  The attack was led by junior Jeff Derr (Barrington, IL) who was 4-4 and finished with a game-high 23 points.  Teammates Brady Bajema (Whitinsville, MA) and Aaron Trigg (Overland Park, KS) combined for seven three-pointers as well as 19 and 14 points, respectively.

Despite the loss, Newbury received a solid performance from sophomore John Rowley Jr. (Hartford, CT/Rockville) who recorded 22 points and was almost perfect from the free-throw line going 12-13. 

The Nighthawks host conference opponent Wheelock College on Thursday, January 29, 2009 - Tip-off at 7:00 PM.
