Seniors Shine Despite Nighthawk Loss
Kevin Cleveland (Lynn, MA/Lynn) and Walky Magloire (Waltham, MA/Waltham) capped off their Newbury careers with everything but a win tonight vs. Daniel Webster College. The two combined for 33 points, nine rebounds, and 14 assists in a tough 85-70 loss to the Eagles.
The Nighthawks entered the locker room with a two-point lead due primarily to an outstanding offensive effort by Cleveland who racked up ten points and four assists in the first 20 minutes of play. The Eagles' Chris Hanson (Salem, MA/Salem) connected on three of his six total three-pointers to keep Daniel Webster within striking distance. Unfortunately, Hanson's nine points would only be a preview of what was in store for the Nighthawks in the second half.
While Magloire led all Nighthawks after the break with ten points, it would not be enough to counter the effort of Hanson and his Eagles. The sophomore from Salem, MA connected on an additional three-for-six from behind the arc, in addition to two field goals and a perfect free throw percentage (2-2).
The Nighthawks paid tribute to their departing seniors, Cleveland and Magloire, in a halftime ceremony. The two will be missed for their hard work and dedication to the Newbury Men's Basketball program and their team efforts both on and off the court.
The Nighthawks close out their season at Elms College on Saturday, February 21, 2009 with an NECC matchup beginning at 2:00 PM.
