Greg Sullivan enters his fourth season as head coach of the Newbury College Nighthawks.  From the day he was selected as the first head coach in program history in January of 2007 Sullivan systematically began laying the groundwork for the development of the Nighthawk baseball program.  That spring, he led the Nighthawks through their inaugural season of NCAA Division III competition, playing a foundation-building twelve game schedule.

As he enters his fourth season, the program is preparing to embark on a 35 game schedule; which includes traveling to ESPN’s Wide World of Sports Complex during Spring Break, as well as a 15 game New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) schedule.  In each of the last four years Sullivan’s roster has expanded and this spring was no different. The Nighthawks add 12 more first-years players to the roster for the 2010 season and now carries 26 players in the program.

Last spring, Sullivan led a young Nighthawk team to 6-28 overall record and was awarded the New England Collegiate Conference Sportsmanship Award. The Nighthawks started seven first-year players and completed a 34-game schedule that included the program’s second annual spring trip to Florida. At the culmination of the season he was honored as the 2009 Newbury College Coach of the Year.

In 2008, Sullivan earned the first victory in program history with a 10-9 victory over St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn (NY) and followed that win up with the program's first ever doubleheader sweep on the same day, winning the nightcap 10-1.  For his efforts, at the conclusion of the 2008 season, Sullivan was named national Coach of the Year for the Association of Division Three Independents - an honor he shared with Tom Tereschuk, head coach of perennial national title contender Chapman (CA) University.  In just two short seasons, five of Sullivan's players have been named to the Division Three All-Conference team.

In the off-season, Sullivan works to spread the word about Newbury College and its baseball program by taking part in numerous camps and clinics around the country and by coaching in various collegiate summer leagues.  In the summers of 2007 and 2008 Sullivan served as an assistant coach for the Manchester (CT) Silkworms of the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) where he has worked as a hitting coach, 3rd base coach and pitching coach.  Throughout his three years of summer collegiate coaching experiences, Sullivan has worked with ten players that have gone on the sign professional baseball contacts.

A 2006 graduate of Eastern Connecticut State University, Sullivan was a four-year starter in the outfield and at first base for New England's all-time winningest coach in any sport, Bill Holowaty, and the four-time NCAA Division III national titlists.  Sullivan led the Warriors to three NCAA Division III national tournament appearances, finishing second in 2004.  In the summer of 2003, he signed a temporary contract with the Harwich Mariners of the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League and accompanied his Eastern Connecticut teammates and represented the United States at the World Port Tournament in Amsterdam.  In the summer of 2004, Sullivan was invited to play in the Southern Collegiate Baseball League with the Carolina Chaos, where he was selected by the coaching staff to receive the Chaos' Coaches Award.

Sullivan holds a B.S. degree from Eastern Connecticut State University where he majored in Communications and minored in Health and Physical Education.  Currently, he is working toward a Master of Science in Educational Leadership and Management from Fitchburg State College, and serves as a full-time staff member in Newbury's Department of Admissions.  He makes his home in Needham, MA.
