Chetelat Named to New England Regional Team
Newbury College senior right-hander Alex Chetelat (Farmington, Conn.) was selected to the 2012 All-New England Division III Third Team, which was released this morning by the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA). One of 51 student-athletes from across New England, the power pitcher became the first player in Nighthawk baseball history to be named to the regional team.

The season continues for the Newbury College baseball team, who was selected as the fourth seed in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Tournament on Saturday May 12th. Making their first ECAC Tournament appearance, the Nighthawks are set to play host school, number seed Endicott College (27-16).

Terrific Season Comes to a Close for Nighthawks
Senior Jorge Pimentel, who pitched the Nighthawks in to the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) title game on Saturday against Elms, led three Nighthawks to be named to the All-Tournament Team. Junior Matthew Clawson and sophomore Michael Dwyer were also named to the team following a 6-2 loss to Daniel Webster College on the final day of the NECC tournament.

Nighthawks, Hawks Meet Again in Post-Season
The Newbury College baseball team earned the third seed in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) post-season with an 11-7 conference record. It is the first time the Nighthawks have made the conference tournament and will play second seed Becker College (19-18, 12-6 NECC) on Friday May 4th in Nashua, N.H. at 3:00 p.m.

Newbury College Baseball Head Coach Kraig Kupiec will be one of six former Hilltoppers who will make up the Durfee High School Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2012, set for induction next Friday, May 4th in Fall River, Mass.

Senior first baseman Alex Chetelat (Farmington, Conn.) and junior Chris Ninteau (Lisbon, Conn.) were tabbed as the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, after helping the Newbury College baseball team going 5-1 on the week including sweeping conference foe Becker College over the weekend. It was the first time in program history the Nighthawks took the season series over the Hawks.

The Newbury College baseball team’s four game win-streak came to halt Tuesday afternoon falling to non-conference UMass-Dartmouth, 7-6, on the road. First year shortstop Corey Keane (Tolland, Conn.) went two-for-four with two doubles against Corsair pitching while driving in two base-runners.

The Newbury College baseball team outscored Southern Vermont, 31-11, over the weekend as they swept the season series. Reigning New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) player of the week, senior first baseman Alex Chetelat (Farmington, Conn.) pushed his hitting-streak to 12 games going 7-for-13 (.538 BA) against the Mountaineers.

Overall on the week, the Nighthawks first baseman hit at a .550 clip (11-for-20) with three doubles, a triple and a homerun.

Chetelat's 3-for-4 Night Not Enough to Edge Out Falcons
Senior first baseman Alex Chetelat (Farmington, Conn.) continued his dominance against non-conference Fitchburg State University going three-for-four with two RBIs in a tough 11-8 loss. In his four year career, Chetelat is a .714 hitter (10-for-14) against the Falcons with two doubles, a homerun and 10 RBIs.

Nighthawks Drop Rubber Game to Mariners
After the Newbury College baseball team split Sunday afternoon’s double-header in New London, Conn. following the program’s first victory against Mitchell, a lopsided 12-1 win in game two, the Mariners took the rubber game of the three game series, 8-3, Monday evening. Sophomore centerfielder Michael Dwyer was two-for-three with two steals to give him 10 on the season.

When the Newbury College baseball team returned from Fort Myers, Fla. early Sunday afternoon they found themselves atop the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) standings with a 6-4 record. Hitting .303 as a team, it is their best start since the re-birth of the program in 2007.

First Years Open Season Strong
The Class of 2015 has already had an immediate impact for the Newbury College baseball team. Not only did two-sport athlete Cameron D’Agostino’s (Salisbury, Mass.) walk-off single give the Nighthawks the 4-3 win over Wilmington but the freshman class combined to go nine-for-13 with seven RBIs against Eastern Nazarene College, Tuesday afternoon.

Coming off their best season in program history with an 18-17 record, the Newbury College baseball team was selected to finish fourth in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Pre-Season Poll. In a vote by the seven conference head coaches, the Nighthawks garnered 34 points including one first place vote.

The Newbury College baseball teams looks to build off a 2011 season where they surpassed single-season highs in nine categories: batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, hits, runs, triples, stolen bases, ERA and strikeouts en route to a program best 18-17 record. With 12 newcomers joining 18 returners to make up the 2012 squad, the Nighthawks are poised to compete for a New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Title.

Former Duke Pitcher Joins Newbury Baseball Coaching Staff
Newbury College baseball Head Coach Kraig Kupiec announces that former Division I pitcher at Duke University, Jim Perry has been added to the Nighthawk coaching staff for the 2012 season. He will join second year assistant coaches Anthony Lauretto and Jim Chapman along with first year coach Ryan Gill who look to help the Nighthawks baseball squad compete for a New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) title.

Newbury College junior Kyle Schiavone (Wethersfield, Conn.) is playing in the 18th Annual Old Time Baseball Game for the second straight year on Thursday August 11th at St. Peter’s Field in North Cambridge. He will be wearing the 1901 Baltimore Orioles all black uniform with yellow “O."
