Newbury Baseball Announces Solid Incoming Recruiting Class
The Newbury College baseball team is compiling a strong recruiting class for the upcoming 2011-2012 school year. Head Coach Kraig Kupiec released the names of student-athletes who have committed to attend Newbury and compete for the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) championship in 2012.
Here are some of the early commitments the Nighthawks have received:
Steven Broy – Middle Infielder (Gorham HS/Gorham,
Maine)
Steven is an extremely talented player who will make a
strong bid to start in the Nighthawks infield in 2012. His
solid defensive mechanics, hitting ability, and speed on the bases
caught Coach Kupiec’s attention very early in the recruiting
process. He batted .489 in 2010 with a .787 slugging
percentage while playing shortstop for Gorham High School earning
him First Team All-SMAA recognition. Steven intends on
majoring in Criminal Justice.
Ryan Sinclair – RHP/Corner Infielder (Portsmouth
HS/Portsmouth, RI)
Ryan is a hard-throwing righty who compiled a 5-3 record
as a junior starting pitcher at Portsmouth High School in Rhode
Island which earned him Division I East All Star Honors. He
finished his American Legion season in 2010 with an impressive 7-1
record. His control and ability to attack hitters impressed
Coach Kupiec the most. Ryan will be vying for a spot in the
Nighthawks rotation as a freshman. Ryan intends on majoring
in Business Management.
Justin Harding – Outfielder/Catcher (Bishop
Stang/Rochester, Mass.)
Justin is an exceptionally talented hitter who excelled at
Bishop Stang High School batting in the middle of the lineup.
As a junior, he batted .406 with 12 RBIs and 10 SBs for the twice
defending Co-EAC Champion. Coach Kupiec believes Justin
has the bat speed and power potential to be a top offensive player
in the NECC. This past fall, while playing for the 16U
champion South Coast Titans (17-1), Justin batted .459 with an
impressive .676 slugging percentage. Justin intends on
majoring in Business Management.
Lyndon Brundige – RHP (Rockland HS/Rockland,
Mass.)
Lyndon is a tremendous control pitcher who has remarkable
upside as a collegiate pitcher. Lyndon is a starting pitcher
for Rockland HS and was successful pitching for the Southeast squad
in the 2010 Bay State Games. Coach Kupiec was impressed with
his ability to spot his fastball and use his off speed in all
counts. Lyndon intends on majoring in Computer
Science.
Javier Moniz – Catcher (Durfee HS/Fall River,
Mass.)
Javier is a solid backstop behind the plate for the MIAA
Division I powerhouse Durfee Hilltoppers, Coach Kupiec’s alma
mater. His offensive potential and ability to hit for power
to all fields impressed Coach Kupiec the most. He hit .338
with two homeruns and 17 RBIs as a junior and has begun his senior
campaign with the same fortitude. He received Herald News
Honorable Mention honors in 2010 and played for the Westport
American Legion. Javier intends on majoring in Sports
Management.
