Curry, Graus Highlight the 2011 Athletic Banquet
In front of a packed house of nearly 250 people including over 130 athletes, their families, faculty and staff junior Patrick Curry (Hampstead, NH) and fellow junior Jessica Graus (Rochester, NY) earned the 2011 Male and Female Scholar-Athlete Award, respectively, at the 2010-2011 Athletic Banquet.

Nine Student-Athletes Earn Winter/Spring Academic All-Conference
A total of nine Newbury College winter and spring student-athletes were named New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Academic All-Conference, announced by Commissioner Del Malloy on Tuesday. To be eligible for the NECC Academic All-Conference, a student-athlete must post a minimum grade point average of 3.40 on a scale of 4.00 and must be sophomore or higher in class standings.

Baseball's Back at Newbury
The 2011 edition of Newbury baseball experienced monumental success led by first year Head Coach Kraig Kupiec, setting new season and career highs both at the plate and on the rubber. He turned a last place team into a formidable, competitor in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) and the other conference coaches took notice. Junior catcher Patrick Curry and Kupiec were honored by the conference with an All Conference First Team Selection and Coach of the Year honors, respectively.

The Newbury College baseball team is compiling a strong recruiting class for the upcoming 2011-2012 school year. Head Coach Kraig Kupiec released the names of student-athletes who have committed to attend Newbury and compete for the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) championship in 2012.

Nighthawks Drop Final NECC Contest to Eagles, 3-0
Daniel Webster starter Zack Hurley (Hudson, N.H./Alvirne) tossed eight innings of three-hit ball to give the Eagles the season series over the Nighthawks with the 3-0 shut-out win, Friday afternoon. Newbury falls to 9-9 in the conference and 18-16 overall with the loss while Daniel Webster improves to 18-11 and 9-6 in the NECC. Before the game, the Nighthawks honored senior outfielder James Languirand (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford), who was playing in his final home game, for his four years of dedication to the Newbury baseball program.

Nighthawks Take Season Series Over Mountaineers
The Newbury College baseball team completed the season sweep with an 8-2 victory over Southern Vermont College, Tuesday afternoon. The win vaults the Nighthawks into second place in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) with a 9-6 conference record and 18-13 overall while the Mountaineers fall to 12-19 and 6-7 in the NECC. First baseman Alex Chetelat went three-for-four while driving in two baserunners in the victory.

Kovner Garners NECC Rookie Honors
Middle infielder Daniel Kovner (Hamden, Conn.) was honored by the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) with Rookie of the Week honors. The first year helped guide the Nighthawks to a 2-0 week defeating Lesley University, 12-3, and Becker College, 10-5.

Leicester, Mass.- First baseman Alex Chetelat (Farmington, Conn.) went three for five driving in three baserunners as the Newbury College baseball team pounded out seventeen hits to defeat Becker College 10-5 in New England Collegiate Conference baseball action Friday afternoon.

Junior starter Jorge Pimentel (Winsted, Conn./The Gilbert School) picked up his second victory of the season pitching six innings, striking out six Lynx as the Newbury College baseball team swept the season series over Lesley University with the 12-3 win Wednesday afternoon.

Catcher Patrick Curry (Hampstead, N.H.) registered his 100th hit of his career leading off a three run third, scorching a double into right to help Newbury College take the rubber game of the three game series against Elms College, 5-4, Sunday afternoon at MacKenzie Stadium in Holyoke, Mass.

DeMatties Game One Walk Off Helps Nighthawks Split
Shortstop Russell DeMatties’ laser into the left center field gap, driving in first baseman Alex Chetelat in the bottom of the eighth inning gave Newbury College the walk-off, 3-2, victory in game of Saturday afternoon’s twin bill over Elms College. It was DeMatties second walk-off hit of his collegiate career – his first coming in 2010 when he launched his first collegiate homerun off the left field foul pole in the bottom of the 10th inning in an 8-6 win over Becker College at Campanelli Stadium in Brockton, Mass. The Nighthawks fell to the Blazers in game two, 10-6.

Rams Snap Nighthawks Five Game Winning Streak
The Newbury College baseball team fell to Framingham State University, 7-1, in non-conference action Friday afternoon. Rams starter Rob Mclaughlin (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth South) kept Nighthawk batters off balance for 5.2 innings allowing just one run while scattering four hits to pick up his first victory of the season. Catcher Joey Herer (Needham, Mass./Needham) drove in the lone Nighthawk run scorching a base hit into right center to plate center fielder Kyle Schiavone (Wethersfield, Conn./Wethersfield).

Chetelat’s Grand Slam Rockets Nighthawks Over Raiders
Third baseman Alex Chetelat (Farmington, Conn.) capped off a 16-5 rout of the Rivier College Raiders Thursday evening clearing the bases in the top of the seventh launching a towering grand slam to deep centerfield.

Nighthawks Break Records in Sweep of Lynx
Catcher Patrick Curry (Hampstead, N.H.) broke two Newbury College all-time records to help the Nighthawks sweep the Lynx of Lesley University, Sunday afternoon, 8-2 and 9-2, in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action. Curry came into today’s game one RBI shy of tying William Maddock of the all-time Newbury record and four hits away from the all-time record in hits.

Chetelat Complete's Nighthawks Eighth Inning Comeback
First baseman Alex Chetelat (Farmington, Conn./Farmington) capped off a five run bottom of the eighth with an infield single, clearing the bases to give Newbury College the 9-6 come-from-behind victory over Albertus Magnus. The victory imprvoes the Nighthawks to 7-9 on the season, giving them their most victories since the program was re-started in 2007.

The Newbury College baseball team dropped the season series to Mitchell College, falling to the Mariners 8-7 in game one and 8-5 in game two of Sunday afternoon’s double-header. Catcher Patrick Curry (Hampstead, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) led the Nighthawks with three hits while driving in three runs on the day.

The Newbury College baseball team dropped their home and New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) opener to Mitchell College, 11-1, Saturday afternoon. Left fielder Michael Dean drove in his team-leading 12th RBI of the season in the bottom of the second with a one out single to score shortstop Russell DeMatties, who doubled to lead off the frame.

The Newbury College baseball team returns to campus after completing a 5-5 week at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Fla. over Spring Break. The warm Florida weather woke up the Nighthawk bats, as they saw a dramatic spike in their offensive statistics from the last two years.

Nighthawks Split with Stars
The determination of the Newbury College baseball team was shown as they split yesterday’s late afternoon-early evening double-header against Dominican University. After falling in the first game 12-6, the Nighthawks answered with an 8-6 come-backer in the second. First baseman Alex Chetelat sparked two Nighthawk rallies in the second game, reaching base to lead-off the second and sixth innings en route to the 8-6 comebacker.

Nighthawks Open 2011 With Double-Header Sweep
In their first season under new Head Coach Kraig Kupiec, the Newbury College baseball team opened up the spring season in Fort Myers, Fla. with a double-header sweep of Finlandia University, 4-3 and 21-1. Centerfielder Kyle Schiavone led the Nighthawk bats going four-for-six on Sunday with a double while driving in five.

Gulla Completes OCS Marine Training
Michael Gulla (Westbury, NY/Carle Place) returns to Newbury for his junior year after completing the Marine Corps Officer Candidate School (OCS) over the past summer. For the last two years, he has been a starter on the Newbury baseball team as well as a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
