Eagles Sweep Nighthawks
Nashua – Junior Bruce Brown (Lowell, Mass.) went a combined 6 for 8 with a home run, three RBI and was perfect on five stolen base attempts guiding host Daniel Webster to a doubleheader sweep of Newbury College, 10-2 and 6-3 in a New England Collegiate Conference meeting Saturday at Harvey Woods Field.
The victories pushed the Eagles over .500 at 9-8 overall (4-1 NECC) for the first time this late in the season in program history. The nine wins also tied the all time program season wins mark, matching the 1995 squad that went 9-10.
The Eagles also pulled into a first place tie with Mitchell College, who split with Southern Vermont earlier in the day.
Rookie Darrik Marstaller (Spofford, N.H.) added a combined 5 for 9 day at the plate with a home run, two RBI, three runs scored and two stolen bases.
Russell DeMatteis (Hamden, Conn.) and Patrick Curry (Hampstead, N.H.) helped pace the Nighthawks (4-15, 2-3 NECC) going a combined 3 for 6 each at the plate over the two games.
In the opener, Brown was 4 for 4 with three RBI, three runs scored and two steals and parked a solo shot in the sixth, his fourth of the year, as the Eagles prevailed, 10-2.

Kory Kiro (Goffstown, N.H.) tossed a complete game victory (3-1), allowing two earned runs on six hits over seven innings, striking out four and walking three.
Zach Griesche (Niskayuna, N.Y.)) took the loss (0-5).
Newbury took an early lead with two in the top of the first scoring on a balk and a Curry RBI double.
After DWC cut the lead in half in the bottom of the frame on a Brown double that scored Kilgore who had drawn a leadoff walk, the Eagles took control plating five in the second on five hits including RBI singles from Chuck Manning (Riverside, R.I.), Marstaller, Brown, and Nick Michaud (Windsor Locks, Conn.).
Martin would add a RBI double in the third and a run scoring single in the fifth.
Curry led Newbury with two hits including a RBI double.
In the nightcap, Marstaller matched Brown’s first game efforts going 4 for 4 with his own solo shot for his first of the year, scored twice, and added one steal as the Eagles won 6-3.
Nick Lalumia (Maywood, N.J.) added two hits knocking in one and Brown went 2 for 4.
Noah Shaw (Lebanon, Conn.) went the distance on the mound (1-0) for DWC allowing three runs (one earned) on eight hits, striking out five and walking three.
Chris Ninteau (Lisbon, Conn.) took the loss (0-5), allowing six runs (three earned) on 11 hits, striking out one and walking two.
