Eleven Nighthawks Named NECC Academic All-Conference
A total of 95 student-athletes have been named to the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Academic All-Conference Team for the winter/spring semester, it was announced today by Commissioner Del Malloy. This list included eleven Nighthawk student-athletes who participated during the winter/spring season and posted a minimum grade point average of 3.40 on a scale of 4.00 while a sophomore or higher in class standings.

Guidi & Curry Collect Individual Honors; Baseball Earns Team Sportsmanship Award
All six sponsored programs were represented on 2010 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Baseball All-Conference Team. Newbury freshman Joseph Guidi (Derry, NH) received First Team honors as a designated hitter while sophomore catcher Pat Curry (Hampstead, NH) received Honorable Mention. For the second consecutive year, the Nighthawks were honored with the NECC Sportsmanship Award.

The Newbury College baseball program will honor their two seniors - Hayato Iwahori (Tokyo, Japan/Meguro-Gakuin) and Jamison Torres (Chicopee, MA/Sabis International Charter) on Sunday, May 2, 2010 prior to the start of their New England Collegiate Conference game vs. Mitchell College. First pitch is at 4:00 PM; game will take place at Boston College.

HOLYOKE, Mass. – Elms College freshman center fielder Stephen Fisher (West Boylston, Mass.) drove in four runs in the second game of the doubleheader and Newbury College scored nine runs in the top of the seventh of game one to help the Blazers and Nighthawks play to a split in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) baseball action at MacKenzie Stadium in Holyoke, Mass.

AMCATS Sweep Newbury
PAXTON, Mass. – Sophomore Jeff Scafidi (Worcester, Mass.), junior Andy Fallon (Worcester, Mass.), senior Jeff Lander (Gloucester, Mass.), and junior Michael Galvin (Rutland, Mass.) all reached milestones as the Anna Maria College men’s baseball team swept Newbury College by scores of 14-4 and 16-5 in a non-conference doubleheader during Senior Day at Alumni Field on Wednesday afternoon. With the pair of victories, the AMCATS improve to 18-17 overall, while the Nighthawks fall to 5-20.

DeMatties Walks Off With Win
Shortstop Russell DeMatties (Hamden, CT/Hamden) lined his first homerun of his collegiate career off the left field foul pole, to drive in centerfielder Kyle Schiavone (Wethersfield, CT/Wethersfield) for the walk-off, 8-6, win in the bottom of the 10th inning against Becker College.

Hawks Sweep Past Newbury
Worcester, Mass.- Becker College swept their baseball double header against Newbury College by scores of 3-2 and 9-3. In game one it took extra innings for the Hawks to prevail over Newbury. The Nighthawks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Michael Dean (Wethersfield, Conn.) RBI single.

Six Run Inning Not Enough To Hold Off Eagles
Freshman Darrik Marstaller (Spofford, NH/Keene) helped the Eagles return from a 9-3 deficit after two innings to defeat the Nighthawks, 14-10, Sunday afternoon. The Daniel Webster centerfielder was 3-for-6 on the day with two doubles and four RBIs in the comeback. Newbury sophomore Joseph Herer (Needham, MA/Needham) was 2-for-5 on the afternoon with two runs scored.

Eagles Sweep Nighthawks
Nashua – Daniel Webster College swept Newbury College, 10-2 and 6-3 in a New England Collegiate Conference meeting Saturday at Harvey Woods Field. Newbury took an early lead with two in the top of the first scoring on a balk and a Patrick Curry (Hampstead, NH) RBI double. Curry led Newbury with two hits including a RBI double.

Nighthawks' Streak Stops at Three; Leopards' Improves to Seven
WENHAM, Mass. – Sophomore Justin Bolla (Newburyport, Mass.) went 3-for-5 with four RBI and junior Matt Jordan (Concord, N.H.) went 3-for-6 to help a 17-hit attack, while sophomore Kyle Cruz (Burlington, Conn.) pitched eight strong innings as the Wentworth baseball team ran its win streak to seven games with an 11-4 win over Newbury, in a non-conference game played at Gordon College’s J. Tec White Field. Newbury scored all of its runs in the eighth inning, using three singles – one an RBI single from sophomore Patrick Curry (Hampstead, N.H.) – and a three-run blast to straightaway center off the bat of sophomore Alex Chetlat (Farmington, Conn.)

Nighthawks Extend Win Streak to Three Straight
NEWTON, MA—Newbury College used two-run innings in the eighth and the ninth to produce a 5-1 victory over the Lasell College baseball team on Tuesday night at Brandeis University. The Nighthawks improve their record to 4-12 while the Lasers drop to 2-12 in the defeat. Newbury’s starting pitcher Jorge Pimentel (Winstead, CT) picked up the victory on the mound, surrendering four hits while striking out six batters in seven innings. Aquib Shah (Watertown, MA) went 2-for-4 at the plate for the Nighthawks, also scoring one run.

Griesche & Ninteau Shut Down Mountaineers
The Newbury College baseball program collected their first conference victories of the season with a double-header sweep of Southern Vermont College on Saturday, April 3, 2010 by scores of 5-3 and 4-3. Freshmen pitchers Zach Griesche (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) and Christopher Ninteau (Lisbon, CT/Griswold) paced the Nighthawks as they each threw complete games, collecting four and seven strikeouts in games one and two, respectively.

Nighthawks Fall to Mountaineers in Conference Opener
Bennington, VT- The Southern Vermont College Mountaineers (5-6 1-0NECC) baseball team started NECC action Friday afternoon at Bill Epstein field with a 10-1 victory over the Newbury College Nighthawks (1-12 0-1NECC). Newbury College’s Agib Shah went 1-2 with the lone RBI on the afternoon. Shah was joined in the hit column by teammates Joseph Guidi (1-3), Justin MacCutcheon (1-3), Russell DeMatties (1-3), and Michael Marcelynas (1-1).

Providence, RI-Senior center fielder Jared Rossi (Johnston, RI) and junior catcher Justin Corso (Cranston, RI) each belted decisive home runs as the Rhode Island College baseball team swept a doubleheader from Newbury at Anchorman Field on Sunday afternoon.

Fitchburg State Squeaks Past Newbury, 8-7
LEOMINSTER, Mass. – Freshman Randy Ortiz, Jr.’s (Danielson, Conn./Killingly) sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted Fitchburg State to an 8-7 victory over Newbury College in non-conference action this afternoon. Fitchburg State withstood a six homerun attack by the Nighthawks, including a pair of homeruns from Alex Chetelat, who finished the contest 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI. Classmate Pat Curry was also solid with a 2-for-4 day, a homerun and one RBI, while Michael Dean added a pair of hits, including a longball.

Pitching Runs Thin as Nighthawks Fall to Tigers
The Newbury College baseball team closed out their Spring Break trip in Florida with a double-header loss to Sewanee: The University of the South, 11-4 and 15-1, Saturday afternoon. The loss drops the Nighthawks to 1-6 on the season.

Freshman Kyle Schiavone capped off a three-run ninth inning with a walk-off, two-out single down the third base line scoring Michael Dean to give the Nighthawks the 8-7 come from behind victory.

Errors Prove Costly for Nighthawks
The Newbury College baseball team was swept by Emerson College Tuesday afternoon, 5-1 and 10-4 at McKechnie Field in Bradenton, FL. Lions starter Levine struck out 11 Nighthawks to earn his second victory of the season in game one while left fielder Maltzan went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs in the second game.

Griesche Pitches Complete Game, but Cannot Tame Leopards
The Newbury College baseball team was swept by the Wentworth Institute of Technology to open the 2010 season Monday afternoon in Orlando, Florida. The Leopards took game one 7-4 and edged out the Nighthawks in the second game of the day, 2-1.

Becker Chosen Preseason Favorite in NECC Baseball Poll
ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Becker College, the 2009 Inaugural New England Collegiate Conference Champions, has been chosen as the preseason favorite to capture the NECC baseball championship, it was announced today by Commissioner Del Malloy. Voting for the preseason poll was conducted among the NECC’s head baseball coaches. Daniel Webster College and Newbury College rounded out the poll with 5th and 6th place respectively. The Eagles received 17 points, while the Nighthawks had six points.

Newbury Baseball & Softball Support Miles for Myles
On Sunday, November 8, 2009 the Newbury College baseball and softball programs teamed up to take part in an NCAA sponsored event, Miles for Myles. Myles Brand the President of the NCAA passed away in a September after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. In his honor, the NCAA and the National Association for Basketball Coaches (NABA) encouraged all NCAA institutions nationwide to take part in a three-mile walk during weekend of November 7th to raise money for cancer research in honor of the passing of Brand. The three-miles were used to represent the three NCAA divisions.
