Maddock and Curry Collect NECC Accolades
Senior William Maddock (Marshfield, MA) was honored by the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) for his stellar senior season with a spot on the All-Conference First Team. Maddock started all 34 games for the Nighthawks in 2009 and batted .348 with team-highs in hits and RBIs with 40 and 33, respectively. Defensively, he served as an anchor in centerfield finishing with a .971 fielding percentage. In addition to his statistical accomplishments, Maddock will be undoubtedly missed for his exceptional leadership for the Nighthawks.
"Everyone involved with the Newbury College baseball program is tremendously proud of his accomplishments, not only over this season, but throughout his career," head coach Greg Sullivan states.
Sullivan will not be left empty-handed, however as he returns a class of 12 freshman to his 2010 lineup led by catcher/first baseman, Patrick Curry (Hampstead, NH) who received NECC Honorable Mention in 2009. Curry finished second for the Nighthawks in batting average(.356), hits(37), and RBIs(27). "This is just the start for Pat, it is a well-deserved honor for a hardworking and outstanding player that I know will only get better, " boasts Sullivan.
In addition to these individual accolades, Newbury baseball was also awarded the conference Sportsmanship Award. Both team and individual honors are voted on by the head coaches of all six member institutions.
