GULLA RETURNS FROM RIVER VALLEY LEAGUE
Pitcher Michael Gulla (Westbury, NY) returns to Newbury College’s baseball program for his sophomore season after completing a 33-game schedule playing for the Waves of the River Valley League in Dubuque, Iowa. Gulla was selected to play in the inaugural season of the River Valley League this past summer. The wooden bat collegiate summer league was made up of six teams comprised of players from every level of collegiate baseball from all over the country.

Maddock and Curry Collect NECC Accolades
Senior William Maddock (Marshfield, MA) was honored by the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) for his stellar senior season with a spot on the All-Conference First Team. Maddock started all 34 games for the Nighthawks in 2009 and batted .348 with team-highs in hits and RBIs with 40 and 33, respectively. Head coach Greg Sullivan will not be left empty-handed, however as he returns a class of 12 freshman to his 2010 lineup led by catcher/first baseman, Patrick Curry (Hampstead, NH) who received NECC Honorable Mention in 2009.

Baseball Closes 2009 Campaign with Loss to MA Maritime
The Newbury College baseball team closed out their 2009 campaign with a 23-13 loss to MA Maritime Academy. Freshman Alex Chetelat (Farmington, CT) rapped out a pair of hits and drove in three runs, including his fifth home run of the season, in the setback for the visiting Nighthawks (6-28), who jumped out to a 5-0 advantage in their first at-bat highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of senior Brian Fish (East Brookfield, MA). Newbury also tallied five times in a sixth inning highlighted by senior Wayne Borden's (Methuen, MA) two-run double and closed out it scoring in the seventh on freshman Joseph Herer's (Needham, MA) RBI double.

Newbury Baseball Drops Two to Mitchell
The Mitchell College baseball team swept Newbury College this afternoon in a NECC doubleheader by the scores 5-4 and 12-5. Jared Bishop (Moodus, Conn.) hit a game-winning single in game one, and game two was an offensive explosion for the Mariners. Newbury's William Maddock had a big day at the plate for Newbury, as he went 2-for-3 with two runs, three RBI, and two homers.

Nighthawks Capitalize on Raider Errors
The Newbury College baseball team finished with 18 runs on 18 hits en route to a 18-3 victory over Rivier College. The third inning is where the Nighthawks did most of their damage as they exploded for 8 runs. Joseph Herer (Needham, MA) connected on a double to start things off, followed by a single by Curry, a single by Wayne Borden (Methuen, MA) and a double by Nick Dunn (Portland, ME).

MIT Dispatches Newbury in Sunday Sweep
In game one, Newbury (3-22) posted six hits during the game, including four lead-off hits, but didn’t advance a runner past second base accounting for the 6-0 loss. The Engineers took quick control of game two accumulating a final score of 19-1. Nighthawk senior Evan Hudson and junior Nick Dunn contributed two hits a piece in the Newbury loss.

Elms Sweeps Newbury in Baseball Doubleheader
Elms College swept visiting Newbury College in Saturday’s New England Collegiate Conference baseball doubleheader at MacKenzie Stadium by scores of 9-4 and 6-0. Nighthawk freshmen Curran Shane and Joseph Herer were both 2-3 in game one with Herer also scoring two runs.

Hawks Squeeze By Nighthawks, 7-2; 5-4
The Newbury College baseball team was swept by conference foe Becker College 7-2 and 5-4 in their final home game of the season, Friday afternoon. With the loss, the Nighthawks fall to 2-20 (0-6 NECC) while the Hawks improve to 10-7-1 (5-1 NECC). Newbury freshman Alex Chetelat (Farmington, CT/Farmington) pitched a complete game allowing four earned runs on eight hits while striking out eight. He also played well at the plate, going 3-for-6 on the day with a double and a run scored.

Newbury's Maddock Leads Nighthawks to 13-3 Win Over Lasell
The Newbury College baseball team handed Lasell College a non-conference loss tonight, 13-3, at Brandeis University. Junior center fielder Billy Maddock (Marshfield, Mass.) led for the Nighthawks, going 4 for 5, hitting two doubles, one triple, and a two run homer earning seven RBI’s on the evening.

Nighthawks Surrender First Season Wins to Eagles
The Daniel Webster College baseball team scored its first victories of the season, sweeping Newbury College 15-7 and 10-6 at Harvey Woods Field. Michael Dean (Wethersfield, CT) led the Nighthawks (1-15, 0-4 NECC) with two hits including a two-run single in the sixth and a two-run double in the seventh in game one. He continued to produce in game two as he stroked a two-run single for Newbury in the fifth, while William Maddock (Marshfield, MA) added two hits.

Lions Tame Nighthawks
The Newbury College baseball team was defeated by a much improved Emerson College program by the score of 13-5 in non conference action today in Easton, MA improving their record to 7-6 (2-0 GNAC). The Nighthawks wasted a solid pitching effort by freshman Shawon Cave (El Mirage, AZ/Dystart) who pitched 5 stong innings allowing only 2 eared runs. The young scrappy Nighthawks, continued to battle throughout, and made some noise late in the game putting together some keys hits and scoring 4 runs in the 8th inning.

Fitchburg State Swings Past Newbury
The Fitchburg State baseball team tallied runs in eight out of nine innings as the Falcons defeated Newbury College, 14-7 in non-conference action this afternoon. Freshman Alex Chetelat (Farmington, Conn./Farmington) led the Newbury offense with a 2-for-5 performance, including a homerun (2), one run scored and two RBI, while sophomore Nick Dunn (Portland, Maine/Deering) added a triple, one run scored and a game-high three RBI.

Nighthawks Stumble Against Mountaineers, 10-7; 12-6
The Newbury College baseball team lost their home and New England Collegiate Conference opener to Southern Vermont College, 10-7 and 12-6, Saturday afternoon. The match-up was a slugfest as both Evan Hudson (Sunapee, NH/Sunapee) and fellow senior William Maddock (Marshfield, MA/Marshfield) were one hit away from hitting for the cycle. Hudson just needed a double to complete the feat while his classmate was a homerun shy with a late RBI triple in the bottom of the seventh.

AMCATS Erupt for 23-4 win vs. Nighthawks
The Anna Maria College baseball team defeated Newbury College by a score of 23-4 at Alumni Field on Wednesday evening. The loss drops the Nighthawks, who have yet to play a conference game, to 1-9 on the season. Senior Evan Hudson (Sunapee, N.H.) paced the Nighthawks with three hits in four at bats and a run scored. Freshman Alex Chetelat (Farmington, Conn.) also had a strong game going 1-3 with a two-run homer to center field in the sixth inning.

Anchormen Sweep Newbury
Junior first baseman Tim Schabowski (Pascoag, RI) went 6-for-8 with four runs scored, three RBI, a double and two stolen bases as Rhode Island College swept a doubleheader from Newbury at Anchorman Field on Sunday afternoon. Despite the loss, the Nighthawks' Alex Chetlat went 3-for-4 with a double while playing first base in game two. Junior second baseman Hayato Iwahori (Tokyo, Japan) contributed a pinch-hit RBI single in game one, then went 2-for-2 with two runs scored in the nightcap.

Newbury Baseball Competes at Disney
Although young, Newbury baseball’s future looks bright as they kicked off the 2009 season in Florida. Three newcomers to the Nighthawks squad contributed greatly in the team’s seven games in the Sunshine State.

Nighthawk Baseball Receives National Recognition - Maddock, Hudson, Adams, and Sullivan all named to All-Independent Team
The Newbury College Baseball program added some national honors to its resume for the 2008 season. Three players were honored by the Association of Division III Independents as members of the All-Independent Team.

Newbury Baseball Splits on Senior Day
The Nighthawks honored their three seniors that helped establish the second year NCAA Newbury Baseball Program today during their double-header with Becker College. Ryan Dorgan (Methuen, MA/Methuen), Chris Cooper (Marlborough, MA/Marlborough), and David Carroll (North Providence, RI/North Providence) all played in their final home game for the Nighthawks as they split the day 1-1.

Newbury College Baseball Continues to Build in 2008
With one season under their belt, the Newbury College Baseball team is moving forward with no looking back. Under the direction of head coach Greg Sullivan, the Nighthawks enter their second season as an NCAA Division III Baseball program having done a lot of work, both on and off the field, in the off-season to prepare for the Spring 2008 season.
