MADDOCK SIGNS WITH THE CAROLINA CHAOS
Becomes first Nighthawk to sign a contract for an NCAA Sanctioned Summer League
Billy Maddock (Marshfield, MA), freshman outfielder for Newbury College, has signed a contract to play this summer with the Southern Collegiate Baseball League's Carolina Chaos.
The Chaos' 2007 schedule begins in late May and ends the final week of July. Summer collegiate leagues are designed for college players to showcase their talent for Major League Baseball scouts in a more professional setting. The team is based in Clemson, South Carolina and plays their home games on the campus of Southern Wesleyan University at Dr. C. Keith Connor Field.
Teams in the SCBL play a 44 game schedule against teams located in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. Players live with host families and work in the communities they are housed in for about a two month period. Players are chosen from every level of collegiate baseball from all over the country to play in the summer collegiate leagues. The SCBL is a member of the National Alliance of Collegiate Summer Baseball Leagues, and is partially funded by Major League Baseball. All teams and players in the SCBL are governed by NCAA guidelines for eligibility and rules.
"This is a very exciting milestone for the Nighthawk Baseball Program. I am very happy for Billy and I think he will be a great ambassador for the program, and, most importantly, our college." said Head Coach Greg Sullivan. General Manger and Head Coach of the Carolina Chaos, Brain Swords added that he was "very impressed with Billy and what he brings to our program. He seems to be a fine young man, and I'm looking forward to working with him this summer."
