Newbury Baseball Splits on Senior Day
The Nighthawks honored their three seniors that helped establish the second year NCAA Newbury Baseball program today during their double-header with Becker College. Ryan Dorgan (Methuen, MA/Methuen), Chris Cooper (Marlborough, MA/Marlborough), and David Carroll (North Providence, RI/North Providence) all played in their final home game for the Nighthawks as they split the day 1-1.
In the first game against the Hawks, the Nighthawks came out to an early lead with 5 runs in the first three innings. The Hawks scored their first run in the top of the fourth, and then made a comeback to tie the game with 5 runs in the 6th. Newbury, however, came through with two runs in the 5th and 6th to win the game 7-6.
Justin Adams (East Providence, RI/East Providence) earned the win for the Nighthawks, along with collecting two RBI's, one hit, and one run. Carroll and Evan Hudson (Sunapee, NH/Sunapee) each had two hits and two runs, with Hudson earning one RBI.
The Nighthawks entered game two with thin pitching and the Hawks prevailed with a 23 hit attack. Dan Briand (Northbridge, MA/Northbridge), Jim Ceglarek (Lane Tech / Chicago, IL), and Ryan Mercado (Old Saybrook / New London, CT) each had two home runs and 6 RBI's for the Hawks in game two.
Becker now has a 7-21 record. The Nighthawks are now 4-23 this season with two games to go. Newbury hits the road to play Daniel Webster tomorrow at 2:00 p.m.
