O'Connell, Young Take Home NECC Rookie of the Week Honors

Women's Basketball

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK - Newbury College freshman center Catherine O'Connell (Quincy, Mass.) guided the Nighthawks to a 2-1 week defeating NECC foes Becker (76-74) and Southern Vermont (72-55) and falling to Lesley (78-55).  She tallied three double doubles for the week finishing with 40 points and 46 rebounds. She averaged 13.3 points, 15.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists, a stellar 3.6 blocks and 1.6 steals for the three game series.  For the week, she shot 37% (16-for-43) from the field and 53% (8-for-15) from the line.

Men's Basketball

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK - Newbury College freshman guard Timothy Young (Brockton, Mass.) helped the Nighthawks to a 2-1 week leading his team in scoring in all three contests.  Newbury went 2-0 in the NECC defeating Mitchell 72-63 and Lesley 68-61, while falling 76-56 to TCCC's Eastern Nazarene. Young averaged 20.0 points per game, 2.0 rebounds per game, 2.0 assists per game and 1.3 steal per game. He shot 50% (21-for-42) from the floor, 48% (11-for-23) from behind the arc and 77% (7-for-9) from charity stripe.
